  3. Calmar scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Excessively choked sherry molt, and the sherry there is very robust, so even the oak clamped, not really as a whole came out, although over time other, more pleasant derivatives also appear.
    • Nose
Open, dry, old furniture, furniture varnish, lemon confiture, polish, new shoes, raisin water.
    • Taste
Dense, saturated, astringent, excessively many tart oak, prunes, furniture-lacquer notes, mineral shades, burnt matches, metal sour., Over time, tropical fruits, herbal mixes, honey, flow through.
    • Finish
Spicy, refreshing, oak, young bark, burnt rusks, prunes, lacquer notes, dark beer, cola, in development it becomes sweeter, there are tropical fruits, flower-honey motives.

N: Astringent stuff with plenty of cask noise and notes of metallic peas and cheese & pickle. So very similar on the nose to the Paul John that followed. Further similarities come with a shared chalk development - and yet with this Brackla, the aged softness shows through eventually marking out the distinct difference between the two.

T: Very little but strong ethanol and fresh cask wood. Improves a little but there is very little to shout about.

    F: Toasted/burned nutshell smoke with metallic>milky=saline barley.

C: Easily missable, save for a reasonable finish.

    CASK No. 55.48

Stunning colour –deep orange brown, like maple leaves in glorious autumn sunshine! The nose had plenty of goodness, sticky toffee pudding, prunes and dates as well as salted chocolate pistachio brittle. On the palate neat spiced apple cake with brown sugar brandy sauce accompanied by mulled wine with cinnamon, dried orange peel, allspice and cloves. With water, aromas of rum and raisin chocolate brownies and raspberry almond fudge cake whilst to taste, sweet and sour black cherries with a dry, slightly bitter, yet very smooth finish. After 18 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead, we transferred this whisky directly into a 1st fill PX hogshead.
