Whisky Reviews for Glen Keith 1997 SV

15 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.78 points

  1. Calmar scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

The tightly squeezed aroma turns into a dense and juicy taste, ending with an equally rich finish - a classic sweet bourbon profile, a wide palette of derivatives, a rather complex composition, only a weak nose is a shortcoming.
    • Nose
Indoor, damp, wet board, vanilla, light creamy notes, stone dust, grain.
    • Taste
Dense, intense, sweet-woody, grain, vanilla, mineral notes, sweet creamy tones, strong peppery tones, ginger, lemon peel, leather goods, sweet confectionery tones, nuts, some tropical fruits in development.
    • Finish
Spicy, powerful, warming, creamy sweetness, oak, vanilla, baked milk, lemon peel.

A trip to the Caribbean. This bottling is downright refreshing, with its gorgeous fresh, tropical, tangy character. Not really complex but wonderfully powerful and direct.

Fresh and fruity - no trace of the 54.3% and directly a nice interplay between tropical-sweet and light-sour fruits. Green apple, ripe pear, tangy mandarins, pineapple, a touch of passion fruit, mango chorle, tropical fruit wine gum, slightly mineral notes.
    • Taste

Beautifully tingling, powerful start with a slightly oily body. Goes well without water. First I had to think of a delicious Ipanema in summer. Limes, passion fruit juice, ginger ale, brown cane sugar. In addition, ripe papaya, creamy vanilla ice cream and fine oak spice.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium-long finish. Passion fruit, lime, vanilla and a mango that should have been eaten by now.

After opening the bottle I was a bit disappointent. The whisky was closed and overall a bit to alcoholic. Also didn’t taste the 20 heats.

But..!! Tasting it again after +/- 7 months it has really opened up! Fresh fruit, a lot of citrus, vanilla, sweet and spoor. A bit of a waxy taste, great finish! Really nice whisky!

This is how Glen Keith has to be. The drop benefits greatly from the time in an open bottle.
    • Nose
      90 90
Lively, very sweet lime zest, firm, vanilla crescents, white grapes, lemon cake, slightly mineral
    • Taste
      88 88
Zesty, clear alcohol, fruity dryness, warming oak spice, here now strongly mineral
    • Finish
      88 88
Slightly bitter, spicy and citrus peel stay long and creamy on the palate

From the start, very closed and alcoholic, also lacks branded fruitiness

N: sour almost artificial fruit like in Haribo Tropical. Banana, pineapple. Cider.
M: here too an exotic fruit cocktail. Vanilla, caramel, malt. Short alcoholic pungency, which turns but rather quickly into bitter oak.
    A: moderate, subtly bitter.

Tip, difficult. about 57%. Think much older. > 18 years Speyside. Bourbon barrel

  15. Achany scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

apples, cider, was the first thing that come to my mind. fresh, fruity at the beginning, malty and really spicey in the middle and the finish is full of sweet honey, maple syrup, a bit oaky as well. Fine dram for a really nice price!
