The nose is characterized by dark fruits and intense spicy notes. Unfortunately, the Macduff flattens off the taste ... Dark and tart woody aromas, a borderline sulfur note and unfortunately almost no fruit flavors let me down a bit. Too bad, the nose was promising and inviting, the flavor of this Macduff unfortunately did not convince me, the tart and dark flavors certainly have their charm. What I really felt in this bottling was negative for me borderline sulfur note.
    • Nose
Rich and strong amber radiates from the glass, from the streaks adhering to the glass wall, tough and oily drops dissolve and flow back into the glass in slow motion. Röstaromen mix with dark berries and fruits, blackberries and raspberries follow, a subtle note of sulfur dissolves from the Fruchtpotpourri. Shadow morels and Christmas spices, then again the subtle and musty notes of sulfur. Red and black berries and fruits now dominate the nose, a nuance of cold coffee and Vollmichschokolade join. Before the relatively high alcohol in the nose makes itself noticeable, the currants, cherries, blackberries, plums and dried raisins and dates burn a true fruit fireworks.
    • Taste
A decent load of spices mix with the first sip with tart and spicy wood elements. Dark fruit flavors are immediately overlaid by mahogany and other dark wood tones. A subtle bitter pungency dresses the entire palate and leaves a tingle and a tickle in the mouth. Immediately, the salivation is massively stimulated, dark and harsh rest the sometimes bitter aromas in the mouth. Cold espresso flows through the teeth, old and dark walnuts spread their tart and intense aroma. Dark chocolate crumbles on the tongue, dark spice swaths pull through the palate. Again a bitter and bitter note of sulfur appears, now a thin layer of salt deposits on the tongue and a pinch of pepper heats the palate.
    • Finish
Chubby heat fills the entire mouth, tingling sharpness envelops the tongue. Aromas of aromas flow through the palate and old or dark and tart wood elements exude their subtle bitter aroma. Here and there are dark fruit flavors and intense spicy notes, otherwise dominate dark and dark aromas the aftertaste. The aromas slowly fade away, the palate is still wrapped in plump warmth, dry pieces of wood and remnants of chewed walnuts are still in the mouth.

Syrupy sweet sherry, blueberries, blackberries, dates, apricots, raisins, pecan nuts, a mildly sour mustiness, clove, nutmeg and smoking hot drill bits (actually a very mild sulfur note).
    • Taste

Again sweet sherry, figs and dates, sultanas, some sour cherry, a pretty drying mouthfeel with coffee notes, quite some sharp black pepper and clove.
    • Finish

Medium to long: interestingly it's a bit smoky, which manifests itself as a note of roasted nuts (again the mild sulfur). Then syrupy, liquorice, peppers and cocoa bitter.

This malt has sulfur notes. I like that. Otherwise, but not so much. The nose is still somewhat voluminous, but the taste is then but relatively thin. For me, the Schwelfelnoten save this malt something. A purchase is not worth it to me. For example, a Deanston offers 20yo more. For people who do not like these sulfuric notes, the malt probably will not be anything anyway.

Compared to the MoS Chrismas 2016 this one was a bit disappointing for me. Not that this isn't a fine whisky, but it was not very special.
Quite a bit of alcohol, followed by rather standard taste notes for sherry whiskies: Chocolate, mocha, caramel, coffee, sweet spices and raisins. Finish bit woody and dry

For this Macduff Christmas 2017, I would have appreciated more fruity notes (lot of plums and dates as with many sherry whiskys), a little bite more present and a little more marked cause alcohol, wood and spices take a little too much place. But that’s a matter of taste.

    A very pleasant seasonal whisky

    • Nose
The high degree of alcohol dominates the nose before blooming notes of black fruits and dates. Spices, Christmas spices that’s it!, also have their place in this seasonal whisky. Light notes of sulfur and coffee.
    • Taste
Wood and spices invade the mouth at first taste, we feel the relatively high degree of alcohol. We find nice notes of black fruits, dried dates and coffee that we had on the nose. Again, a touch of sulfur that is not disturbing.
    • Finish
Long, on spices and wood. Slight dryness in the mouth.

For this Macduff Christmas 2017, I would have appreciated fruity notes (plums and dates as with many whisky sherry whiskys) a little more present and a little more marked, alcohol, wood and spices take a little too much on the rest. But that's again a matter of taste.
    • Nose
The degree of alcohol dominates the nose a bit before blooming notes of black fruits and dates. Spices, Christmas, obviously have the share in this seasonal whisky. Light notes of sulfur and coffee too.
    • Taste
The wood and spices largely invade the mouth at first, there also we feel the relatively high degree of alcohol. We find the notes of black fruits, dried dates and coffee that we had on the nose. Again a touch of sulfur that is not disturbing.
    • Finish
Long, on spices and wood. Slight dryness in the mouth.
