Pretty nice reasonably priced bottle from Mac. Entrylevel stuff, but an enjoyable sip. These kind of bottles are awesome. You can just buy them without any risk. Spend the money and you can be sure to get your moneys worth.

Nice and easy. Nothing spectacular, but nice. Some spices. Dried fruits. Benefits from the sherry cask portion.

Medium ending. Leaves a nice fruity oiliness in the mouth. Some vanilla jumping in your tongue as well..

    • Nose
Sweet, sherry-heavy nose. Typical Macallan. Figs and plums. Fine chocolate.
    • Taste
Mild and sweet. Creamy mouthfeel. Lots of dark fruits and chocolate. Again, a typical Macallan.
    • Finish
      Mild and soft. Medium.

    • Nose
Begins with a clear nutty maltiness, gradually followed by vanilla, brown sugar and chocolate with caramel pieces. Becomes a bit more sryry-toned over time. Later also some oak.
    • Taste
Spicy-malty start with nutty sherry tones. Then dark chocolate, dried figs, melted brown sugar and "giant" chewing clay.
    • Finish
Medium long and very chocolaty. Later also roasted hazelnuts.

A bottle that I likes to have in my collection. However, until it was delivered! This version is a 1L bottle and therefore larger in size than the usual 0.7L bottles. The result is that this bottle does not fit on one of my whisky shelves. Anyway, a little while and Macallan is also for sale in the supermarket ;-)

This single malt whisky is from the Macallan 1824 Collection and exclusively available for Travel Retail. Aged in an American oak and European sherry casks, its bottled at 80 proof without an age statement.

Tasted this Select Oak (supposedly 12yr but NAS) along side Macallan Maker's Edition (supposedly 18yr but NAS) and Macallan Estate Reserve (supposed 21yr but NAS). This one was easily the starter of the bunch, nowhere near the level of the others... though I'd definitely take this over the entry-levels from the colour range. They said it was some from American Jack Daniels casks.Caramel, apricot, apples, candy cane, Werther's candy, chocolate... was there a little bit of dill in there?  Medium finish.  not bad, not great.  A middle of the road Macallan I'd consider entry-level (skip the  colour range)

Macallan leave their whisky to age for a minimum of around 6 years until casks are first sampled [smell & taste-checked], meaning their NAS expressions are no younger.

N: One of those banoffe pie/toffee/malty-sweet crowd pleasers.
    T: Sweet cereal, thin-to-bitter, soft-edgy spirit.
F: Short finish, turning more bitter-sweet – the mash & cereal notes working uneasily against the wood.
    C: Good sub-entry-level malt. Identifiably modern Macallan.Scores a D+

Sweet, honey and caramel on the nose
Sweet, sugary, chocolate and vanilla on the taste
    Short, delicious finish
    Good balanced.

Easily drinkable, no sharp corners on this one.
