    RATING: 85pts – |83 – 86 (B) → Good| — Not a “must”, but a nice-to-have.
    • Nose
      87 87
The nose is dominated by dried apricots and orange zest followed by milk chocolate, baking spices and caramel.
    • Taste
      85 85
The taste is quite dull for Hazelburn, lots of caramel mixed with ripe red apples along with oranges and baking spices.
    • Finish
      82 82
The finish is short to medium, bittersweet and fades away with notes of spicy oak, chocolate, orange zest and caramel.

This triple distilled, almost Lowland-style variation of a Springbank malt claims to be unpeated. On the nose, there are orange zest, unripe apples and unexpected incense smoke. Hints of chocolate, dried fruits and marzipan indicate sherry cask influence. Arriving spicy and gingery, Hazelburn 12 tastes delicate and nutty with notes of roasted almonds, orange marmalade and coconuts. Traces of peat? Most definitely! The finish is of medium length, aromatic and oak-dominated. Altogether, an interesting but quite expensive Campbeltown Single Malt.

A surprising whisky. Without a shadow of the doubt, this whisky has the Springbank signature. Starts off well, but the finish is to my opinion not that good. I would buy a bottle in case the finish would have been better.
    • Nose
      87 87
I had expected a 100% non-peated and not smokey whisky, but in the smell there is for sure a sense of smoke; light though. Nice. Feels like coming home, as Springbank is my favorite.
    • Taste
      85 85
Fruity; spicy, slightly smokey. Nice but for sure not outstanding.
    • Finish
      83 83
The weakest part of all. Medium long. Starts nice, but after a while I start to dislike it. Somewhat dry and weak. Finally somewhat bitter.

    • Nose
Light smoke, do not really get it. Little medicinal, showing grass. Not floral or sweet. Not unpleasant
    • Taste
      Same as finish
    • Finish
Pleasantly smooth, beautiful development. A few drops of water he becomes more open, not more complex. Not really improved, but opener.

It's all in the nose and development.  Spirit-driven.  Classic Springbank style, austere and challenging in that old-fashioned kind of way.  It does very well with time in the glass, and something of a chameleon from night to night.  A winner!
    • Nose
Mineral/metallic, malt, honey, fruit, popcorn, and citrus rind.
    • Taste
Luscious sweet and fruity attack.  Thick, syrupy honey.  Then the mineral returns.  It does not take water well.
    • Finish
Earthy, cereal crackers.  Possibly some sherry cask?  Milk chocolate.  With water, prickly oak spice and bitterness.

With time and more slips, it's always deliciously fruity, you have to give it time.
    • Nose
Aromatic, initially orange, salt, marzipan, chocolate, apricot, young, yellow plum, nuts
    • Taste
Malt, orange, red apple, very tasty and elegant, oak noticeable, figs, cinnamon, milk chocolate, peppery way out the back
    • Finish
Will be fruity again, wine gum, sweet with hints of spice, oak and malt, medium length

  21. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Since then comes the rest of the sample into the glass, which is delicious and beautiful idiosyncratic, 55 € just go so OK.
    • Nose
hui, the tingling in the nose, but no alcohol, but lemon and salt, because I come to nothing else ran ... + drops of water: orange and apricot jam, hazelnut nougat cream, marzipan, a hint of leather / earth in the background
    • Taste
creamy and sweet (even without water), orange marmalade, nougat, milk chocolate ... it lingers longer in the mouth, some pepper and (!) Wine gum - sounds funny, but it is
    • Finish
medium, also here I have again this wine mininum, nougat, gentle pungency and a rather unconventional spicy note, what aromatic, so between ground cumin, fennel and peppermint

  22. wisekyofcourse scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

too erased, too simple, minimalist, few flavors that put themselves forward!
    • Nose
spicy immediately, then fine smells of lemon, grape
    • Taste
a light herbaceous-iodine-smoked side, malt, still preserved lemon
    • Finish
still spices, which last, but short and simple finale

  23. vojt466 scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Overall, it's rounded with gentle spices, all sweet with hints of peat - it's a good piece of drinking, but miracles are not done
    • Nose
At the first sour, rounded, honey, with malt, ripe fruit and slightly leached citrus - it is easy to feel sherry. Somewhere in the background there is woodiness and as if light peat dirt. Overall, the scent is soft and smooth - maybe it's a triple distillation
    • Taste
Ripe fruit overflowed with honey, malt, woody, vanilla, chocolate biscuits, toasted toast with very fine spices
    • Finish
In reverberation, dried dark fruits, woody, cocoa, malt, toasted toast and growing spices

  24. Andytka3 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

N- Solidly balance, honey and pomerol charm with thick rich treacle. Evolve to nutmeg, tree branches and salted butter.

P- Malty, milky chocolate flakes. Well structure and firm despite triple distilled. Rich mouth coating.

F- Long and smooth, frizzy, numb of szechuan pepper remains.

Very good whisky for a standard release. A nice, full bodied apperative. It's a shame for that soury note, makes me wonder if the sample was still okay.
    • Nose
At first a lot of orange zest. Definitely vanilla there as well. Makes me think of icecream. Yes, that's it! Those orange icecreams with white cream inside. Some leathery notes as well, and maybe some nuts. Pretty onedimensional, doesn't really get further then the icecream, but very nice indeed. Very full.
    • Taste
Something different in the mouth. Still some oranges, but the taste is more spicy. Cinnamon. Some honey as well. But there is also a sour edge to it, which is a bit offputting for me. Mouthfeel is perfect for a standard release.
    • Finish
Unfortunately the soury edge stays. Finish is quite long.

  28. Othorion scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Solid, tasty, good value for money.
    • Nose
Peach, red apples, metallic, light alcohol, vanilla, freshly cut grass, lime
    • Taste
Oily and velvety on the tongue, spicy on the nose, slightly peppery, some ginger, citrus fruit, peach, honey, nuts and some oak
    • Finish
Warming, fruity, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, ginger, getting dry.

  29. WhiskyNotes scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

Not sure. A rather light, orangey spirit, influenced a lot by the oak. I’m not entirely convinced – the shadow of recent Springbank production is just too big for this.

    • Nose
Quite pungent at first. Clean, with a slightly sharp edge. Lots of orange zest, lemons and some briney notes. Golden raisins in the background. Walnuts and leather. A little sunflower oil and a hint of cigar boxes.
    • Taste
Starts spicy / grassy and rather coastal again. Malty notes, a little caramel and growing stewed fruits. Orange liqueur. A little honey. Firm wood spices (nutmeg, ginger and others) as well as a faint hint of dark roast coffee.
    • Finish
Quite warm and spicy, with hints of tobacco, but rather short.

Taste: again rich dried fruit. Nutty, liquorice, a bit of citrus, cocoa/coffee. Peat is there somewhere, but mild.

Can take water very well despite soft, neat character. Springbank is definitely in. Very pleasurable. Challenging to the nose.
    • Nose
Neat - spicy honey, vanilla buds, slight berries, green herbs.
w/ water - like neat, but more intense, oily, a touch sweeter, heavier vanilla
    • Taste
Neat - soft, spicy arrival. Sustained development of liquorice to parsley. Light smoke (cask?).
w/ water - soft, sweet and spicy arrival. Full development to spicy, aromatic wood, light citrus, dry vanilla.
    • Finish
      Long. Dry citrus. Smoky touch.

  35. Gearmailteach scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

A highly interesting, multi-layered dram that can not deny its origin.
    • Nose
A hint of smoke opens his nose. Typically Springbank. Interesting and interwoven are maritime, oelig-earthy flavors in addition to extreme fruitiness of bright fruit, oranges, lemons and summer meadow. Honey and almonds complete the picture. A great, complex nose.
    • Taste
Oily and full. Spicy and vigorous start, again honey, citrus, sea and at the same time sweetness with chocolate, syrup, hazelnut and oak.
    • Finish
Long, oolig. Fruits and nuts. The maritime flavor remains on the palate.

I like these mild, tasty malts, which do not kill you with the alcohol and at the same time have many facets to offer. The nose is probably the strength of this Hazelburn, but I was also very positively surprised by the extremely soft character in the taste.
    • Nose
A mix of fruit and sweetness. Clearly green apple and lemon come through, then milk chocolate and vanilla. Everything always mixes with a note that is reminiscent of the sea and the earth. The alcohol shows up here not at all. To try out the schonmal is great and varied!
    • Taste
In the mouth wonderfully light and balanced, the alcohol is very well integrated and barely perceptible, so that you can take your time forever to "chew". It remains fruity in the background but now also slightly malty, nutty, woody.
    • Finish
Here is the first time the alcohol is a little clearer, but still very pleasant. The medium-long finish is further accompanied by the fresh fruitiness. Finally, the memory of fresh candle wax and the initial sweet components remained with me.

    • Nose
Notes of raisins, dates, matches and red apples. Definitely more sherry notes than it’s younger brothers.
    • Taste
Some cinnamon, mild citrus (very mild), pepper and apples.
    • Finish
It’s long and it’s full of cinnamon, raisins, apples and dark chocolate. Good sherry whisky indeed!

This triple distilled whisky has more wood influence than I expected. This makes it interesting, engaging and complex. It has a lovely balance and nice sherry cask influences.

    • Nose
A creamy, intens, delicate and complex whisky with aroma’s of barley sugar, vanilla, oak, hint of fruity port, sherry, sandalwood, cedar wood (pencil shavings), soft leather, caramel, red currants, banana, sawdust, soft honey tone, mineral tones, a hint of chocolate, citrus, orange zest, tea, rumethers and creamy nuts.

A lively, rich and full-bodied whisky with an impressive balance of
sweet, fruity and spicy flavours. Very enjoyable with a silky texture
and a fantastic cocoa signature. This Campbeltown malt nicely
illustrates the outstanding and diverse potential of the Springbank
distillery. Truly an exceptional dram for the money.

I thank the German importer Hanseatische Weinhandelsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG for the sample!

    • Nose
Incredibly rich on the nose with a clear sherry influence, along with
vanilla, toffee, apricots and lingerng citrus fruit. Red dried fruits
arrive with gentle milk chocolate and a touch of hazelnut in the back.
This is all complemented by roasted almonds and a delicate marzipan
      note.
    • Taste
Rich and spicy. Sweet and deliciously fruity with a massive load of
spices - oak, pepper, cinnamon and ginger. Nutty aromas and hints of
cocoa emerge with gentle vanilla, a whiff of smoke and a briny edge.
      Very well balanced and rounded.
    • Finish
A long and spicy finish with a slightly touch of citrus' coming through.
Lingering fruity sweetness mingles with caramel, coffee, and chocolate
      on the tail. Very intriguing.

WITH WATER: Clean and fresh on the
nose with vanilla, toffee, sherry flavours and a touch of fruitiness.
Sweet and creamy on the palate with intense and warm spices - oak,
cinnamon and crystallised ginger, with sticky toffee on the tongue. The
finish is long, sweet and spicy with a slightly dry touch of cocoa on
      the tail.

Amazing, I find this slight smoke? I like it best from the nose, because he has a nice interplay between sweet and tart. I can not find that in my mouth and finish anymore. Still great whisky.
    • Nose
First a light smoke and a bit maritime, sour green apple, vanilla, roasted almonds, everything dips quite quickly and makes room for sweeter notes, sweet vanilla cream with almond slivers, juicy yellow apples, a bit restrained even pear sauce, the initial aromas flash again and again by
    • Taste
slightly oily, almonds, roasted walnuts, sour apple with a dash of lime
    • Finish
Here again, first some smoke and brackish water, sour, light fruit mix, from the tip of the tongue it is slightly dry, almonds or more marzipan raw mass comes through at the end

Vanilla - extract and frosting. Smoky with a pinch of salt and seawater
dampened pebbles in honey. Melon, lemon, and some green apple. Very
slight porridgy. A few floral notes. Maybe even some putty. Toast.
Grassy and fermented sugar. Then there's this odd metalic note. Hmm.
    • Taste
Lively, with honey, sandalwood, a few whiffs of smoke, more putty, and
zesty on bitter lemon rind. Stale ginger root and soft pepper. Sweet and
      a little drying.
    • Finish
Smoke (light), honey, wood, lemon zest. It's really very good.
Accessible and straightforward. Dull wet wood and a delicate wax coat.

    Version 11/440!

Not very defined, but interesting, powerful, firery, feels 'young' …

    I like it.

    Tasting with FineSpirits_butler1
    • Nose
Fruit, apple juice, also young, firm pear,

      light smoke, something earthy, slightly peaty ?, some wood;

      after the first sip:

Caramel, some dark chocolate, a little coffee powder, idea of citrus.
    • Taste
fiery, short fruity, then wood, salt, spicy, slightly sweet (Caramel), slightly bitter, slightly metallic, grain? Grass? Hay?

At the 2nd sip richer, fuller, some bread, herb, coffee powder, cocoa pod.

      medium, some spices, salt, some sweetness;

      becoming dry

This is a difficult whisky for me. It is hard to pin the notes. It is a whisky that is slowly gaining on me. Initially I did not like it that much but with each trial i get to like it more.

    Very intreging whisky.

    SGP: 763
    • Nose
A bit harsh on the nose in comparison with Sprinkbank 10 at the same ABV.

Grease/metal oil. Some subtle sweetness, which with time comes to to the fore. Later on a - hint of brine

With water - some nuts (roasted almonds).
    • Taste
      Firey in the mouth too.

Sweet with a bit a of bitterness. The machine grease is still there. Toffee. green spices - (lovage).

Water - makes it more palletable. The sweetness is more prominent with some subtle smoke coming through.
    • Finish
medium on green herbs and then mostly sweetness. with water some earthy notes come towards the end.

Not what I expected from the guys at Springbank. It's good, but it may be the last Hazelburn I purchase.
    • Nose
Hmmmmm. Rather light. Sawdust. Raisins. Diluted syrup. Caramel. Milk?
    • Taste
More caramel. Unsalted almonds. Oak. Dry dirt. Stale cigarettes. Just hints of red berries.
    • Finish
Medium. Slightly spicy. Old salt...like the Mediterranean water in Venice.

  52. CrilleVBG scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Its a likable whisky indeed. But it wont win any awards, if you ask me.. (84pts)
    • Nose
I think the nose is kind of weak, but warming. Disappears a little too fast from the glass... I can smell a lot of wood here. Resin(?), vanilla and nuts.
    • Taste
Its smooth, I can tell u that. Its butter, and wood. You can really taste the oak.. Earthy is a good word to describe the mouthfeel.
    • Finish
Medium long finish here. The 46% does the whisky good. I can taste a sweetness that I like. But I want it to be longer...
