...that offers a delicious Traditional Scotch Bunnahabhain that I personally like much more than today's dirty Bunna style. It is flawless and nicely balanced with an interesting melissa flavour which is somewhat unique. The sherry cask was a 3rd or even 4th refill so the sherry flavours are rather shy and let the fine Bunna malt profile shine more brightly. I like such stuff!
The colour is jonquiripe corn and the nose offers a delicious fruity and honey profile with rather shy sherry-induced aromas only. It is not the most complex nose but it is very enjoyable without any off-note. Later fine spices and shy herbs join in followed by waxy and oily notes.
The taste shows an unusual herbal flavour component (melissa) that is rarely found in whiskies and it nicely fits into this profile. Besides this there are fruits, honeys, vanilla-toffee and spicy flavours in a balanced mix. The wood is perfect to provide a structure but it never dominates. Water is not needed.
The initial mouthfeel is warming but not very much coating without distracting moments. The finish is of medium length and adds a tasty milk chocolatey flavour that I really like. No bitter or drying moments, this dram was bottled at the right time.
