A beautiful balanced rounded bolt. The dizzying dance of sherry and oak on the edge of the stage (23)
    • Nose
TOBERMORY, Red label, 32 yo (1972-17.05.2005), 49.5%, Oloroso Sherry Casks Finish, bottle # 1149 of 1710, WB (1037): 91.72 (128), www.whiskybase.com/whisky/1037/ A dense, gruff groove, even a pear cake from an oven, even a dusty attic stuffed to the brink of large dried pears, a grandmother's cough syrup (like a chlorophyllite for gargling) with some medicinal herbs like wormwood, fechel, anise, mint, thyme and more knows what, cocoa beans, dark grapes with sour plum, toasted hazelnuts with pecans in buckwheat honey, tobacco with gunpowder and stuffed with balsamic sauce, fatty jamon Iberico, cognac notes, grandfather tincture on orange peel in a damp cellar in an oak barrel (24)
    • Taste
Grandmother's cough syrup with dominant aronia blackberry and chamomile, traditional medicine shop with healing herbs, oak on the verge of collapse as well as round soft sherry, which somersault one another, leather sofa in hot summer, nut buttery astringent mouth, cocoa powder with spoon, white pepper, jam from black currant (23)
    • Finish
Prolonged, warming, medicinal. Sticky oily dirty old leather chair made of sandalwood in a dusty library, nutmeg, forest berries on wet ground, plum dark pastille with licorice (23)

Spicy, peat, tobacco, earth, honey, chocolate, leather multilayered and complex, excellent!

Nice balances, oloroso and oak is not too heavy, the distillery character felt well.
    • Nose
Peat, salted minerals, sherry, gunpowder, tobacco, honey, herbals, earth and citruses.
    • Taste
Oily. Forest fruits, sherry, cocoa, chamomile, chewing gum, spicy oak and ash.
    • Finish
Long, spicy with oak and ash.

[March, 2009]  Together with friends I emptied bottle no. 476 that I bought for 159 Euro in November, 2008.

[April, 2010]  Together with friends I emptied bottle no. 324 that I bought for 145 Euro in February, 2010.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 92,5 both times.  My notes state an adorable old style sherry with no flaws at all.  Dangerously quaffable...

  8. Dram Dracula scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

Not unique, but certainly a very, very good, well-balanced sherried Tobermory that is better and more "smooth" and less dirty than the Glengoyne 25 OB or a recent Glendronach 1990 26yo #2973. No sulfur. Kinda dusty, leathery (typical older Tobermory/Ledaig), and has this hay in a barnyard component in addition to its well-integrated sherry. I would buy this if it was less than $400, but nowadays, impossible. I'm glad to have tried it but will not compete for these in auctions.

23/03/2017: A good big Sherry. Still well wooded but really very nice. 90/100

17/11/2018: Always very woody. A little more leather in the mouth and a little mushroom. 90/100
    • Nose
Very sherry. Wood thoroughly, well integrated because fresh. And citrus fruits (lemons)

      A little chlorophile. Gunpowder.

      Medicinal herb, licorice. Leather.
    • Taste
Mouth very woody. Red fruits. Strawberry, currant. A lot of alcohol. A little acid.
    • Finish
Final. Long and strong on strawberry, wood (sawdust), spices.

      Coffee bitterness
