  1. OJK scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

Almond polenta muffin on the nose, with sour rhubarb, some paraffin and even some smoky mezcal with lemon. Wonderfully supple palate, with plenty of layered depth despite the low ABV. Wax and olive oil, with salted caramel, milk chocolate with chilli and orange peel, and smoked vanilla on the finish.

Incredibly long and peated. Burning peat present in the glass hours after the tasting

  4. Calmar scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

A magnificent aroma, you can enjoy endlessly, which is just not there and it all moves and overflows, then going deep, then appearing on the surface, the taste / finish, with all its undoubted advantages, the depth is only set off by aroma.
    • Nose
Open, dry, from the first breath you feel incredible density and versatility, major league, dry boards, ash, lemon peel, wool, prickly mineral notes, dry herbs, whetstone, creamy shades, welding aerosol, industrial textile - canvas, new clothing; sea salty motifs, algae, oiled steel tools and much more, great.
    • Taste
Rich, calm, slightly watery, the continuation of aroma with an emphasis on sweetness and mineral-metallic shades, lube oil, salty tones, unexpectedly tropical fruits, creamy notes, nuts, boiled condensed milk.
    • Finish
Soft, subtle, spicy, metallic sour with a light bitterness of the bark, a little sweetness in the background, lingonberry, mineral notes, exploding caramel, oiliness, ash.

Dramfest 2016 - Dave Broom Session

salty, seaspray, caramel, powdered sugar, faint iodine, pears. (92)
    • Taste
salty, caramel (cookies), cinnamon, chalk, oily, oat cookies. (93)
    • Finish
malty, old school, more caramel, less salty now, freshly baked cookies. (93)

Another excellent 1972 Gordon & Macphail bottling, just superb. Profile wise it has not got the depth of character that the OB have but I have to say from a drinking pleasure perspective this could be better than most of the OB. If you watered some of the annual releases down to around 40%, it will be interesting to see if they are this good?
I will have to put that logic to the test in the near future.
    • Nose
      Notes from February 2015 (sample)
    • Taste
Very, very smooth, thick and creamy that coats the mouth, petrol fumes, tar, peat is there but not as much as the nose suggested. There is burnt brown sugar to go with the sherry influence.
    • Finish
       Long, soothing.

  8. MaltMartin scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

A very nice 1972 Brora with those classical farmy notes in nose and taste.
    • Nose
Fragrant. Farmy notes of stables. Wet hay. sweet-sourness intermingled with smoke. Iodine as well of course. It's all very gentle and delicate though.
    • Taste
Lovely sweet oak and peat. Even a  little bit waxy and oily. Some citrus fruit and melon. Also vanilla and liquorice. Becomes more bitter later on. Complex.
    • Finish
Quite long. Bitter-sweetness which develops in a salty direction. Well balanced.

taste: meaty (sausage), smoke, a bit low in alcohol but enough to taste

    finish: talisker-like, ashes, grate-fire
