    the nose does rather suggest more than can ultimately be delivered. The name of the bottling is really apt
    • Nose
      87 87
      rich toffee or caramel with the peat circulating around
    • Taste
      82 82
      quite syrupy and yes the peat comes through as a presence that yes is like liquorice
    • Finish
      81 81
      medium; a little drying but still keeps the sweetness in the ebb. A return of some caramel but a touch of bitterness as well

  2. FernetBranco scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

    These young Ardmores with special finishes are always exciting. This time, the special fresh smoke of the Ardmores blends harmoniously with the Moscatel barrel. A great, very tasty whisky.

    Once again a beautiful Ardmore!
    The fruity note is there, but the malt would have gained by a longer finish massive of outstanding flavors of Moscatel barrel - join me on Helgo! Nevertheless: thumbs up! 88 / 89P., PLV: 8/10
    • Nose
      Smoke a la Ardmore: dry driftwood, sweetish aromas, slightly salty background; Pear, sweet and fruity, sweet, vlt. Softwood (resin), dry wood or associated smoke flavorings; scented;
    • Taste
      Strong! Ginger and pepper full! dry, extremely sweet smoke, again pear and these well-known dry, slightly perfumed wood flavors;
    • Finish
      Warming, super fruit note, sawdust, subtle smoke;

    Fascinating nose leaves much to be hoped for. Unfortunately, I could not really find the Moscatel grape. Maybe the finish was just too short. What I like is that the smoke is very harmonious and the whisky is not too rough. Also a general sweetness is to be heard. Very well done.

    SMWS Tasting Notes: The sweet peat smoke of slightly burned roasted honey-glazed spare ribs, maple cured bacon, balsamic caramelized onions and broiled bananas was followed by the sweet succulent taste of Char Siu, sticky Chinese barbeque pork belly with ‘burnt’ carrots and parsnips to counter all that sweetness with a slight bitter note. With water meatballs smothered in smoky sweet and sour sauce whilst the flavour of tea smoked stir fry duck delivered a caramelized smokiness on the palate. After 10 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead, we transferred this whisky directly into a 1st fill Moscatel cask for the remainder of its maturation.
