    A super good blend!

The 40% are ok, of course 43% maybe. 46% could also bring more aromas, but even at 40% a lot comes across.

The blend is not exactly a little smoky, which I think is very good. This Ballantine's is really complex and well made.
    Not just for beginners.

      Nice and smoky without exaggerating.
I already have something of marzipan & chocolate in my nose and it brings a certain "depth" that arouses curiosity.
Small drawback, the 40% vol. Is perhaps a little too little here. If you take a deep and long breath, the whiskey will end up losing flavors.

      Nice smokiness here too.
Then chocolate and possibly juicy smoky dates. The alcohol tingles a bit, but it doesn't bother me.
Stays in the mouth for a long time.

Nice chocolate here too. The whiskey is still present for a relatively long time, fades over time. A great whiskey that doesn't overwhelm you but still gives you a certain complexity.
In my opinion, the whiskey is something for upscale beginners but also for someone who wants a nice harmony of Islay, Highland and Speyside whiskeys.

In contrast to previously "enjoyed" Ballantine's blends surprisingly aromatic, smooth, tasty and easy to drink. Not too complex flowery nose, fruity-sweet in the taste and almost medium length finish, pleasant hints of spice, pear, nut and orange. Uncomplicated blended malt that can also keep up with some Speysiders in the price segment up to € 30.

The mouthfeel is a bit watery and the palate and finish are done in a flash, but it's a very enjoyable everyday kind of dram. Not all of the versions of this I've tried have had such a noticeable peat influence, but it adds something interesting to the composition.
    • Nose
Creamy candied lemon and orange peels, malt and clover honey, dried fruit (pineapple, papaya, cherries, and cranberries) and gentle oak and oak char, chocolate cherry cordials, turning a bit more astringent with green guava and sweet cherry blossom. At the very end, there is a light Islay style peat (burning wood, iodine, and smoked preserved meat) just before it all fades.
    • Taste
Fresh and candied citrus, ginger root and honeyed malt with oak, and a light Islay-style peat smoke.
    • Finish
Dried fruits, a touch of walnuts and cinnamon, and orange blossom water and green oak.
