    does not have to be
    • Nose
compact notes of barley and malt, gauze bandage / plaster, antiseptic, slightly soap
    • Taste
you do not taste much sherry, again plaster, some soap, sticks dry on the palate
    • Finish
Chocolate, to the end bitter in the mouth

[November, 2009]  I had this dram during a Prof. Schobert "Islay" tasting at Bonn.

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 75 points only (really!).  My notes state a very unpleasant cheesy flavour on the palate that I did not like at all.  The nose is quite punchy on a peaty/smokey and malty profile.  I could swallow this dram with a lot of water only.

When reading all the other (mostly high and a few very low) ratings here at WB I wonder if some of the bottles are spoiled by something strange (but I have no clue how such a thing can happen).  Any ideas on this subject are highly welcome...

The smoke, peat / sherry, sweet / salty ratio is excellent. Next to them the fruits. Not many, not little. Sumptuous.
    • Nose
Surprisingly smoky, peat, fig, apricot, plum, sherry, raisin, citruses, caramel, herbals, tobacco, rubber
    • Taste
Black currant, plum, sherry, herbals, spices, tobacco, salted caramel, peat, sawdust, seaweed, tutti frutti and tobacco
    • Finish
Medium length, dry, spicy, smoky, salty and sweet

  4. Rosebank88 scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Sweet, burnt caramel, subliminal peat smoke, salty sea breeze, oak, vanilla and fruity reflexes.
    • Taste
Soft and supple, with sweet peat, floral sherry and delicate saltiness. Is quite filigree. With water: a bit clumsy peat.
    • Finish
Medium length, salt and sweet peat smoke.

  5. Lorion scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Unexpectedly smoky. Then sweet and intense. Something musty, some citrus, some spice.
    • Taste
Full and intense and also somewhat alcoholic. Slightly smoky, very sweet.
    • Finish
Long and warm. Very long rather and very warm.

  6. Calmar scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Kneading smoke and rubber in the style of Ladyg and actually Brooklady, a little messy and motley, but cute and fun happened.
    • Nose
Dry, open, smoke, peat, light rubber notes, soot, dried fish, dry earth, tea pu er.
    • Taste
Smoky-smoked, peppery, sweet with bitterness, lemon, peel of grapefruit, lollipops, peat, coal, jam with orange peels.
    • Finish
Spicy, dense, orange peel, lemon syrup, a little white pepper, creamy notes, burnt crackers, dark beer.

Aroma : smoke, rubber, iodine, wood with resin, red wine, fruits (pears, apples, melons), berry jam, spices, herbs (set for pickling), notes of nuts and bread. The taste is sweet, spicy at first, with bitter taste. Spices, smoke, smoked products, peat, butter, fruit. The second wave is an explicit wine note, a tree. The aftertaste is quite long: wood, oil, smoke, sharp spices, berry-wine oskomina, bitterness. In development, dry and astringent, slightly mineral. Conclusion . Curious whisky. Bright, unusual, with character. Dymnik with wine influence. Rating 85 (n22t21f21b21)

Really lovely this, no need for water. One of the best Bruichladdich I have had for some time and that includes some of the older OB.
    • Nose
I am a little surprised as the first thing I get is smoke, sweet smoke but its pleasant. Stewed fig, apricot with a little prune.

It actually reminds me of a lower strength caol ila from G&M.

      Pleasant nose
    • Taste
Nice fruity attack and what I got on the nose I get on the palate with some juicy plum and raisin thrown in

With time I get hints of lime chocolate and some orange
    • Finish
Good medium length with a little dark honey coming through , sweet to the end with a spicy kick.
