[December, 2017]  A small sample courtesy of a good friend.  This is a modern style sherry profile with lots of herbs (eucalyptus, camphor and the like), spicy woods and some fruits (berries & cherries).  Most probably the cask was made of caucasian wood.  No sulphur at all, so the new logistics from Spain to Scotland work properly.  It arrives warming and peppery on the palate with a minor adstringent bitter feeling (heavy tannins, obviously this was a first fill cask).  The taste is sherry sweet with lots of herbal and spicy flavours, the classic modern sherry profile (unfortunately I like the old style sherried drams more).  The finish is medium to long and again a little adstringent-bitter from heavy tannins.  Water turns the dram smoother but the bitter notes grow stronger, too.  I like it better when neat.

All in all a good modern style sherried dram at a reasonable price.  If you like this style: go for it!

    • Taste
      soft, beautifully rising, sweetness, full ripe fruit, sherry, a lot of caramel and vanilla, a touch of spice;

Nice sherry influences, not a particular sherry 'bomb', but gentle and subtle. Very pleasant.
    • Nose

Lovely sherry notes, red fruits, coffee, prunes, chocolate. Gentle, not much alcohol.
    • Taste

A little pepper, sherry influence again, red fruits, chocolate, some coffee/cappuccino. Pretty full body.
    • Finish
      85 85
Only a little pepper left, sweet, more honey and milk chocolate now. Middle long. Some orange as well.
      Later on still some coffee.

Fantastic color given the natural color.

You immediately get an odor explosion of the beautiful and active sherry barrel. delicious! Very full and aromatic.
Spicy but gentle notes such as bit of mint and eucalyptus.
Furthermore, beautiful wood tones that express themselves.
As well as well-known dates and figs, candied syrup, caramelized.
    • Taste
      88 88
very spicy (cinnamon, clove) and peppery at the first start.
Again you taste tones of the oak barrel, slightly bitter.
dates and figs continue nicely, as well as red fruit more and more coming up in the form of cherries and berries.
    • Finish
      88 88
Reasonably medium to medium long finish that is especially bitter, but in a pleasant way.

Very nice Glenlivet that takes good advantage of a very active sherry cask. Still around for 55 to 60 EUR. Recommended!
    • Nose
Dark and sweet nose with a very herbal edge. Think camphor, eucalyptus and even a touch of rubber (without being disturbing). The fruit is both dark and dry. Think figs, dades and plums. Some cherries and a single blueberry. Brown sugar and chocolate. Cloves and a pinch of cinnamon. I like it.
    • Taste
Good body. Immediately quite peppery, warming your mouth. The sherry influence is instant and grand. Sweet on dark fruit with loads of spices like cloves, cinnamon and some black pepper. The fruit is now more cherries than berries, more figs than dades. But the whole remains dark and sweet with a hint of maple syrup and candid sugar. Some sweetened espresso with a bitter touch of the wood that gives the whole a nice balance.
    • Finish
The finish turns a bit more bitter, but that is the first fill sherry cask speaking no doubt.
