[December, 2017] A small sample courtesy of a good friend. This is a modern style sherry profile with lots of herbs (eucalyptus, camphor and the like), spicy woods and some fruits (berries & cherries). Most probably the cask was made of caucasian wood. No sulphur at all, so the new logistics from Spain to Scotland work properly. It arrives warming and peppery on the palate with a minor adstringent bitter feeling (heavy tannins, obviously this was a first fill cask). The taste is sherry sweet with lots of herbal and spicy flavours, the classic modern sherry profile (unfortunately I like the old style sherried drams more). The finish is medium to long and again a little adstringent-bitter from heavy tannins. Water turns the dram smoother but the bitter notes grow stronger, too. I like it better when neat.
All in all a good modern style sherried dram at a reasonable price. If you like this style: go for it!
