Whisky Reviews for Glen Grant 1954 BR

  1. Dram Dracula scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

Tasted at Old and Rare 2020 in London as part of a masterclass sponsored by Whisky Auctioneer which showcased 7 bottles from the collection of Richard Gooding, known as the "Perfect Collection", which by the fill level of almost all the bottles, was actually quite imperfect.

Anyways, this old Glen Grant was great from start to finish. Bright, mentholated, fruity nose with a somewhat lesser but still super nice palate, and rather good finish. This is delicious, but they provided less than 1cl in many glasses that I saw at the masterclass, including mine, which was way too little for a tasting. After all the glasses in the masterclass were poured, the remaining 7 bottles, which all had quite a bit left, were then put in the general event so that more money can be made. This is how you maximize profit, and at the same time, make it into a marketing event for upcoming auction and the auctioneer itself. Probably not the classiest move by the Whisky Auctioneer.

Amazing OBE - old style scotch with after WWII smokiness - very good

A lot of old books, honeydew, little leafy, little metallic, quite some OBE, minerals, adhesive from old stamps, little citric, whiffs of tobacco and smoke - very good

Little punchy, very citric, massive grapefruit, subtle sweetness, more old books, tobacco, little herbal, more OBE, spicy, little ginger, little leafy, little smoky and peaty - still good
    • Finish

Medium long, warm, more citric, grapefruit, little zesty, herbal

  3. detachedblue scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Extremely smoky and peaty, huge iodine, seaweeds, cigar smoke, Iberico ham, some dried apricots, very nutty.
    • Taste
Very tropical, sweet, papaya, very oily and salty, very similar to an old WHITE HORSE (50s), balanced and oily, charcoal, spicey, a little farmy also.
    • Finish
Short-medium, walnut liquor, smoke and charcoal.

  4. Baanaanaabob scored this whisky 94 points Connoisseur

Tasted at old and rare 2020. Amazing nose, brilliant old style glen grant.
