25ml sample at home, July 2021.
It’s the 45.1% 2017 ed according to the website page I purchased it from, but 48% according to the sample they sent me (which if true might make it either the second 2017 release or the 2018 release). So who knows? I don’t particularly care, personally. It's a named whiskey I haven't tried before, which makes it interesting. When it comes to batch 1, 2, 17A3 or P100GH7, I couldn't care less.
Aroma is mostly dried out highlighter pen up front, apple flavouring - a mix of both green and red, apple pie, a touch of fudge and peanut ... and perhaps even rhubarb later on. Potent. Not completely cohesive or deep, but certainly powerful in what it does.
Taste is quite rich, ‘creamy’ in terms of how the flavours mix into each other, toffee, orange liqueur and a definite cherry note, some chocolate eclairs come in on the finish with a spicy alcoholic linger which has waxy plasticky oak. That appley highlighter pen vibe comes through over time bringing a banoffee pie flavour which is quite prominent but not as domineering as on the aroma.
It's not subtle, and it's not refined. It's just an up-front waxy oak-led potent bourbon. It sometimes feels like I'm eating a permanent marker pen but it's certainly an interesting and pretty good bourbon. It’s potent and I can see why people would really like this. For me it’s just that bit abrasive and over-oaky. 3.425/82
