Not a very in your face whisky and not a whisky to end a tasting with, but a lovely complex "naked" HP.
    • Nose
      91 91
Lovely farmy notes, hay, wet grass. Followed by green bananas, a bit of vanilla and a hit of smoke.
    • Taste
      89 89
The green bananas and hay follows in the mouth. A little bitter then followed by a lovely sawdust note and ends with a little peat - not much.
    • Finish
      89 89
A short woody finish - nothing bad, nothing stellar.

This is just an excellent Highland Park. Based on the nose, I had expected that this would be more fruity in the taste. But I like this herbal notes here. It’s quite surprising and so so much better than the original bottlings from HP. Well done Cadenhead!
    • Nose
Super sweet and fruity. This is rather nice! Mandarins, bananas, and peach. Some nice honey, followed by vanilla. It’s a bit grassy too. Then a herbal note, liquorice? Ginger in the background. And later some fudge arrives. There is a tiny hint of smoke. With water: the herbal note dissapears to the background.
    • Taste
More herbal than the nose suggests. Quite less fruity. But still very lovely. Ricola. Liquorice. A hint of ginger. And honey here too. A little bit of smoke in the background. A bit oaky. Later caramel or fudge. Oranges. With water: Less herbal, sweeter, and fruitier.
    • Finish
The finish is long. And herbal, mostly liquorice.

    I just love it. 92/100
    • Nose
ohh, this is wonderful!!! green bananas, honey, whipped cream, old wooden boards in the sun, a wee thread of smoke and a little vanilla. perfect bourbon maturation, not overly complex but without any flaws.
    • Taste
it´s really good. perfect balance of fruit (banana, mango) wood spices, honey and a faint smokiness. becomes a little dry then. slightly herbal too.
    • Finish
      long, clean, slightly dry

A very fresh and herbaceous Highland Park with a beautiful texture. Reminds me of Littlemill! Class Malt!

Highland Park 28 yo 1989/2017 (45.8%, Cadenhead, Authentic Collection, bourbon hogshead, 192 bottles) Five stars

More bourbon, what could go wrong? Colour: straw. Nose: so plainly and utterly similar! Just a tad rounder, perhaps a tad more buttery, and probably with a little more vanilla. The rest is almost identical, aroma for aroma. And guess what, we shan’t complain… Mouth: this time it’s more blade-y, sharper, cleaner, and tenser than the official. More lemon, smoke, smoked tea, brine, light wax, passion fruits, Ricola… It’s all just splendidly zesty and bright. Finish: long, well-chiselled, zesty and coastal, coated with tangerine jelly. Comments: I never quite manage to resist this kind of profile. A perfect natural old HP, just out this month. I know what I’d do… SGP:552 - 90 points.
