    Straight forward! Very straightforward, young and strong! PLV: 8/10
    • Nose
      First fruity, malty and with caramel notes, vanilla, followed by dry driftwood, salt, herbs and more caramel; the longer the malt is open, the more maritime it gets, the impression of salted fish with fresh herbs and lemon, plus fresh sawdust; Herbal perfume, pharmacy;
    • Taste
      Sharp and quite strong, strong start, even with water! A clear impression of smoke! Again driftwood and salty, very dry and astringent, lemon, bright fruit, vanilla and again herbs, green pesto, wet sawdust;
    • Finish
      Long and vigorous, strongly warming, occupies the whole mouth, almost fiery, richly powerful with clear hints of wet wood;

  2. Calmar scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

    A very interesting whisky starts in the aroma as a standard light Islay, but in taste / finish it is significantly enriched with creamy notes, coffee and nuts.
    • Nose
      Open, dry, dried boards, smoke, sticky mineral notes - ash, stone chips, sparklers; lemon zest, coated tablets, peat.
    • Taste
      Saturated, dense, tart notes of oak, lemon zest, ash, peat, lemon pepper, charred branches, a little creamy sweetness, condensed milk, fudge, nuts, cappuccino.
    • Finish
      Spicy, warming, oak, peat, a little smoke, much more creamy notes - condensed milk, toffee, cappuccino, nuts, a little tobacco and wax, ash and mineral shades, metallic acidity.

    Great, young Bunna. Simple but oh so enjoyable.
    • Nose
      88 88
      smoke, vanilla, briny, some honey, caramel, some wood, salt, some peat, sea sand, some sea weed,
    • Taste
      88 88
      sweet, honey, hay, salt, then peat, pepper, some wood,
    • Finish
      89 89
      the peppery salt fills the mouth, then the smoke covers everything. Some hints of hay, vanilla, caramel and honey swirl the mouth elegantly

    Displays a wonderful balance between cask and spirit. It is one of those drams that keeps me nosing and sipping all evening, trying to identify all the nuances and uncover its mysteries.

      A sweet and farm-y kind of peat, which reminds me of some good spirit from other distilleries (Lagavulin, Ledaig, Port Charlotte). Not too punchy, despite the young age and high alcohol percentage, and reassuringly complex. Add to that a mixture of oils, creamed potatoes, bonfire ashes, magazines and burned bread crust, with all the different components perfectly in balance. Behind this there is a fruity backbone of oranges and smoked peaches. The fruits become more prominent after a while, which is very enjoyable, and a creamier and sweeter blanket overlays the nose. Sugar covered sweets, maybe even a hint of marshmallows, followed by the freshness of a sea breeze. After adding some water, I get some tense smoked vanilla, apple pie and roasted coffee beans. Very enjoyable.
    • Taste
      88 88
      The peat is kicks in strong accompanied by ashes, smoked cream (this would be a really good idea, anyone got a recipe?) and grapefruit juice. When it has settled on your tongue (take a small sip, otherwise it might end up be numb), then smoked peaches, orange skin, bonfire smoke, smoked salt and sea water come through. A mouth full of sea water and a few grains of beach sand, maybe even some sea weed. Water makes more acrid and ashy, so not per se recommendable.
    • Finish
      87 87
      A long aftertaste remains in the mouth where peat smoke and sweetness boldly intertwine.

    SMWS tasting notes:

    Cleaner than a freshly buffed ship’s whistle, the nose carried the mineralic and salty sparkle of sea breeze through an apple orchard. Reminiscent of a day at the pier, seashells and prawn tails combined with sweet candyfloss and pickled onion crisps. Cloves and ginger offered a spicy twang before introducing soft smoke to the palate similar to smoked peaches and cream. The oily element continued and was joined by distinctly herbal overtones with rosemary, sage and oregano but also with a hint of liquorice venturing into the fray. Water unveiled a perfumed dimension like rose water and plumes of incense smoke before ending in a finish of salted cashews and brazil nuts.
