Strong dark sherry notes paired with earthy tones.
    Very full-bodied and interesting.
There is also a nice spicy and quite long finish
    • Nose
      85 85
Immediately powerful dark fruits appear in the nose, as well as earthy notes. Great start, is probably strong as the forum here.
After a while, you can also recognize some spicy honey and vanilla. There seems to be some old wood to play with. However, it is sometimes closely interwoven and difficult to define.
Slowly the earthy tones settle a bit, now plum jam with cinnamon comes a little bit more forward.
    • Taste
      87 87
      I'll try a sip now.
First comes the full-bodied dark fruits paired with these earthy flavors, a little honey and vanilla, then it gets a little peppery before the oak makes itself wide.
    • Finish
      86 86
In the finish comes a little milk coffee, honey and again the oak. The whole thing sounds so slow, and seems to resonate a little.

I really like it, but he needs his time in the glass. Comes much older and better matured over, as the actual figures make believe.
    • Nose
      88 88
initially very reserved. Light sweetness and some shoe polish. A very subtle smokiness. Then strong vanilla. Later light fruits, honey, malt, caramel and light spiciness.
    • Taste
      87 87
The smoke is more present than on the nose. Smoked bacon. Clear sulfur note. The alcohol is quite intense, but still well integrated.
    • Finish
      88 88
Strong finish with ham, oak and coffee. Leaves a very creamy mouthfeel.

Nose: Beautiful sherry smell, then like stinging wood and slight sulfur notes (exactly my thing!), Ripe strawberries and light tobacco are added.

Taste: At the beginning again beautiful Sherry with Steichholz, light sulfur - there were active barrels at work. Now I also have kräutrige notes - Maggi and
Lovage and also some dark chocolate. Nice mouthfeel and the alcohol is well integrated.

Finish: Not very long (he does not have to for me, if the rest is right) Slightly dry with tobacco and leather notes.

    Delicious. I liked it
    • Nose
      Blind Sample:

      Colour:
      Shining amber

      Nose:
      Age ...: love:.
Immediately I have wet leather and a pinch of salt. Ripe, cooked berry aromas pour from the glass. Close followed by a certain filthiness, which I find very cool. Has something of car exhaust. He also has something from the workshop and construction site. Somehow just dirty. : D
Let stand for a moment ...
Now comes moist tobacco, herbaceous herbs and what is pear-like. This light, dirty smoky note remains beautifully preserved. I like it very much.
    • Taste
Full, creamy onset. The spicy tobacco comes immediately after. Closely followed by a sweetish smoke note. Dark, sweetish berries and cherries. Always with you, this dirty touch. A certain bitterness plays along. Just like this slightly salty, musty note. Something fresh, light-fruited comes after and invigorates the story noma.
The second larger sip comes to me a bit mineral and brings neat malt and grain. The alcohol is noticeable. But he pushes through the aromas neatly.
    • Finish
Long and peppery. Then comes a load of bitterness. At the very end, there is a decent fruit sweetness.

A good choice - very tasty despite of some sulfur.
    • Nose
      84 84
Fresh, sweet and spirity at first nosing. Needs time to develop. Oaky with notes of sherry and a little bit of sulfur. Chocolate, cigarette tobacco, raisins ... and beer. Becomes more and more pleasant over time.
    • Taste
      86 86
Powerful and bold at first mouthfeel. Pleasant to the taste with notes of sherry and sulfur. Sweet and creamy on the palate, dominated by notes of peanut butter and nuts, liquorice and tobacco.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long and spicy, warming from deep inside. An excellent finish.

    • Nose
Blind Sample: Compared to the previous ... brighter and more delicate in the nose. A slight trace of smoke with sherry notes in the beginning. But spicier. Vanilla and an adhesive note. Candied pears and baked apple. Gingerbread spice and a little smell is above all. The colleague somehow smells minerally. As well as wet sandstone. Tart herbs and a hint of menthol come after. Wet topsoil and wet grass.
    • Taste
Full, set-up. Sweet licorice. Warm gingerbread. Sweet grapes and blueberry jam. Slightly herbish-sweet taste. Bitterness comes along and brings the fresh menthol note with it. Cold tobacco and cherry candy. Juicy orange. Always with you, a little bitterness. The alcohol is present, but holds back elegantly.
    • Finish
Long. Buzzle in the mouth. Sweetie, which then turns into a bit of bitterness. Will be drier in the end.

  9. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Blind tasting: a nice whisky. Exciting, aromatic but relatively fragile with added water.
    • Nose
sweet and winy, something reminds me of Port, less sherry. Fruit, vinous notes, slightly musty, but also nuts (rather like Brazil nuts), some tobacco. The nose is currently not easy to grasp. Now and then she stings a little. With water almost a bit mineral, the port notes (or what I think) are quite clear. Takab, wine, vanilla, fruit.
    • Taste
hard onset, slightly tingling, then come the wine and fruit notes, slightly sour, with the time less tart some mint. With water is also here in the mouth a bit bad herb.
    • Finish
menthol, sweetish, wine notes, tart oak, subtle acidity. In the end, some tobacco.

Did the Glentauchers here parallel with this tasted here: https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/102790/2008-sg There are only minimal differences.
Nose : full of dry sweet sherry, dark red overripe cherries, cotton candy, light "schnapps / liqueur" note by the alcohol, a batch of freshly beaten oak and almonds, only in the background then more and more clearly comes the smell of a matchbox. Not disturbing but nicely wrapped in sweet sherry and giving more depth to the drop. A typical sherry bomb that is very pleasant (not as wild and set as some others) and has a special kick due to the hint of sulfur. Very similar to the sister bottling but a bit fuller and sweeter. Exactly my thing when it comes to sherry whiskys! Taste: first supple then the more than 50% noticeable with tingling spice, again lots of sweetness of cooked fruits and sulfurized raisins, then to the back a slight almond note is added and in the finish joins again a strong matchstick note with it , Oak is slightly present with fresh wood and slight bitterness in the finish but not dominant due to the young age. The finish is warm, dry and intense but not very long.
Again very similar but again more fruit (and a little more sulfur) but less nuttiness.
Both bottlings are great (if you like filthy sherry bombs) and do not give up on quality.
