My first peated whisky was a Lagavulin 16 from 12 years ago. I remembered it like it was yesterday... I didn't like it... but I did not NOT like it, but I thought to myself... I can probably learn to like it more. Well... I guess I was right on!

This is a delicious dram, so soft and gentle and balanced, yet very pointed and direct in its flavor profile and intensity. I can taste the lovely old sherried Lagavulin in here.

Reminder to self... please buy a few more of these White Horses!

Tasted along with the modern Lagavulin 16YO (bottled 2018). This White Horse issue was much lighter and elegant, but probably lacking the dirty character of the modern one.

More vivid and lighter comparing to the modern Laga 16YO. Green grapes, grassy, peeled oranges, mineral rock, ripen estery fruit (banana peel, just-ripen peaches and juicy mango, lovely!). The smoky profile was pretty constrained. And not to forget the sweetness of smoked apple wood! This dram is free from the “sherried” notes, but probably preserved the character of distillate at a greater degree.

Similarly sweet but again, much more vivid than the modern bottling (which revealed to be "dull" compared to this one). Peppery palate, with little bit of floweres. Almost no bitterness. Juice of probably apricots and pears, mineral rock, meaty broth. With chewing the lemony flavour became more evident. Last but not least, it was a little bit waxy (wax on the apple)

Elegant and slightly shorter than the modern bottling. Mineral rock, mild and dolce smoke, leaving a pleasant, harmonic and clean palate.

Agree fully with WhiskyFan2112. We split this bottle and it has absolutely blown my mind. Heavy heavy rancio sherry notes, in the most beautiful way. After a couple months open in the bottle, the most delicate aromas of flower pedals emerged. My favourite part. Sad to see this bottle come to an end... Only topped, for me, by the old Lag 12 white bottle cream label.

Just a beautiful dram with so many wonderful characteristics. Only topped recently by the Lagavulin 12 White Horse Carpano-Torino bottling sampled at Whiskybase Gathering

This whisky holds a lot of memories for me because when my dog died i took his ashes up to the lake district and threw them of the ledge of our favourite spot and proceeded to get drunk on this wonderfull malt. God Bless x
    • Nose
That strong smell of smoke and peat is just heavenly
    • Taste
The taste is out of this world. The smoked kippers compliment the liquorice.
    • Finish
The finish goes on long into the wee small hours and has that strong orange peel presance.
