Not a particular fan of grains but a few years back the strathclyde by dh really impressed me. This grain gives sweet candy, bubblegum sweetness, raisins and red fruit. But it’s also quite woody and delivers quite a bite. Especially post tast tot finish is the part that impressed me the least.

Part of the first ‘HetWhiskyForum Thuisfestival’! Tasting note is in dutch and is based on the available 2cl.
What an exciting and powerful grain this is. It could very well let you think it isn’t even a grain at all when tasted blind.
    • Nose
Powerful grain, clear sherry influences, blueberries. The nose lacks the intense glue / sticky smell, which makes you doubt whether this is a grain. The longer in the glass, the thicker the sherry influences become.
    • Taste
Very full body, lots of sherry, sultanas, dates, liquorice licorice.
    • Finish
Red berries, slightly grainy, Vanilla, honey, raisins.

This dram was part of an online Whiskyforum tasting. Very closed when poured in the glass, but opened very quickly; not an hour or so like many grain whiskies. A positive surprise in an already high level line-up. Only "negative" thing: finish is not that long.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of MaltNose: Honeycomb and chocolate, with a touch of fresh malt loaf underneath.Palate: Beeswax, caramelised dates, slightly oily.Finish: Baking spices start to develop on the finish for a fleeting moment, before disappearing beneath yet more vanilla and red fruit.

Subtle leather, sweet sherry notes, dried apricots, figs and raisins, a little volatile.
    • Taste
      89 89
Sweet, fruit syrup, leather polish, candied fruits, dried apricots and sultanas, very mild woodspice.
    • Finish
      88 88
Short to medium: sweet syrupy fruitiness, leather polish, mildly bitter chocolate and some liquorice.

Had this one in a blind tasting. Although the glue-like smell was gone pretty soon, it still has this typical grainy 'thing', although the sherry cask influence covers a lot a has a nice impact on this whisky.
Very good and solid one, very pleasant.
    • Nose

Licorice, even a hint of bonfire smoke, sulphurish. Full nose. It has this specific grainy sweetness combined with a good sherrycask influence.
    • Taste
      88 88
Strong, pepper. Sweetness, licorice, some vanilla. Drying mouthfeel.
    • Finish
      88 88
Still pretty strong , sweet and some red fruits, licorice. Pretty long, the hint of bonfire smoke is back again.
