Whisky Reviews for Ardbeg An Oa

  1. KayMeertens scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Reminds me a lot of the Corryvreckan, but on lower strength. The new oak and bourbon casks are much more present than the PX, which only shines through in the nose.
    • Nose
Remarkably herbal. Peat, apple, white bread and blueberry.
    • Taste
Peat, apple, herbs, vanilla and white bread. The new oak makes a clear mark.
    • Finish
      Peat, apple, herbs and gingerbread.

  2. Juergen Willi scored this whisky 87 points Expert Junior

Another member of the Ardbeg Core Range. It's good and it's different from the rest. But i like the Ardbeg 10 more.

Smoke, Herbs, Apple, Orange, Melon, Anise, Citrus, Rubber Boots, Tires. It doesn't appear so smoky as the Ardbeg 10. Because of the influence of the PX Sherry and the new oak, the smoke is not so dominant.

Not too sweet. Creamy, soft & rich, well balanced. Spices, Herbs, Salt, Citrus, Pine Needles, Cigar Smoke, Ash, Malt, Nuts. The Alcohol is well integrated. I prefer it without water.
    • Finish
      87 87
      Anise, Oak Wood, Chili.

it could be just me, or the lineup in which i tasted it. But I prefer the standard 10.

Peaty, sea, fruity, barley. All aromas are in balance, nothing dominates. Sweet, soft, smoke aftertaste.

  6. wisekycourse scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

strong spices, strong yellow lemon, a vanilla trace, Monolithic peat, catchy, imposing, but not too intense, much sweeter than on the 10!

the finish is simple, but long!

passed through a sherry cask and bourbon to have a "cake of tissue" in the mouth.

    Blind tasting.
    • Nose
Peat, salty, oily, ginger spiced cookies, ashes and citrus.
    • Taste
Full with ashes, peat and later more meaty. A bit to sharp for me.
    • Finish
Drying with citrus, oily and spices - pepper.

  8. regislefrancois scored this whisky 84 points Expert Junior

    • Nose
      salt, seaweed, peat fire
    • Taste
very powerful on the fat peat
    • Finish
      long and smoke

  10. Helgo scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Very harmonious. Interesting smoky and austere oak. Vanilla and green apple. However, without rough edges and too rounded. The classic Ardbegerkennungsnote is here. But I lack the strength a little.
