Whisky Reviews for Macallan Lumina

18 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 79.80 points

  1. Hemdl scored this whisky 77 points Connoisseur

In the nose, really, really appealing.

The taste and the finish but something of flat and boring - unbelievable. The current price (just under 85 €) can be described as impudence.

  2. Drochaid scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

The Macallan Lumina was made from Speyside Whisky, aged in American sherry oak barrels, as well as in European sherry oak barrels. Here, the European oak barrels had three different sizes. In the taste for more aroma, oak, wood and vanilla.

The scent is quite nice and reminds me a bit of the independent version of Macallan by Gordon & MacPhail that I have open now (WB156239). But that's about all the positives about this whisky. It's much worse in taste. It's not a classic sherry liquor (as in the case of Macallan Enigma), but it's not good either. Wood, sweetness, caramel and a hint of sherry effect (I guess "oloroso"). That's practically everything. And the finish is also quite woody.

Adding a little water will make it an even worse, basically unbearable and disgusting affair, from which tannins climb for a hundred hunts. Simple, young and - how else but - overpriced whisky from Macallan distillery. In other words, no surprises.

All in all, 10yo Fine Oak still remains the best official filling from this distillery for me. And the best Macallan ever by far is the independent performance mentioned above.

Pathetic rating for a pathetic and overprised whisky. What's fair, that's fair! The best part about this whisky is the gift box. This pretty much sums it up.

Nothing to write home about. Short, boring and disengaging.

A rather thin and weak version of Macallan, with some spices and light floral and fragrant flavours...

Joa, like all NAS Mac, he suffers from subtle miscarriages that come from all the stuff ...

  14. Achany scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

Nose was a bit shy at first, sweet, some vanilla, all right. some traces of dark fruits, some milk chocolate as well. nice but very gentle spices, not overly complex, but still a fine dram to drink. We bought and drank a bottle of this malt on the ferry from Ijmuiden to Newcastle and for that trip it was just perfect

    Spicy, woody.

Some aftertaste in the mouth. Can not say exactly what that should be.
The oak note predominates in taste.

    Not spectacular, but ok.

  17. The Macallan scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

A nice touch of subtle Macallan flavors, it reminded me of the Macallan Elegancia but less intense.
