Whisky Reviews for Isle of Jura 1976 DL

8 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.68 points

  1. Calmar scored this whisky 95 points Connoisseur

Magnificent whisky, fantastically complex and complex aroma continues in an equally complex, perfectly balanced taste turning into a smoothly fading, harmonious finish, a universal feeling of age, depth, wholeness, one of the rare ideal samples of long sherry aging, where sherry and oak, merging together, form something unimaginably attractive and noble self-sufficient.
    • Nose
Restrained, dry, first nose - chocolate and pipe tobacco; old noble wood, cigar box, furniture, furniture lacquer, old leather goods, sweet notes - chocolate, toffee, fudge, boiled condensed milk; burning leaves, herbarium, light sulfur-mineral shades, cappuccino, nuts, dry medicinal herbs, potion notes, more sulfur-mineral derivatives, grain, as a whole, a very powerful aroma, deep and complex.
    • Taste
Thick, rich, sweet-wood, furniture lacquer, leather goods, Montpensier lollipops, tobacco, chocolate, coffee, mineral-metal acidity, dried mushrooms, burnt crackers, leavened wort, light notes of a porter.
    • Finish
Soft, rather refreshing, cappuccino, raisins, tobacco, nuts, leather goods, tart oak, ginger, burnt caramel, porter.

Very interesting on the nose with the smoky touch but a bit too fragrant on the palate for my taste
    • Nose
Intense, oak wood, salty, clear notes of smoke, tobacco, hints of leather and vanilla, something like peanut butter- really good
    • Taste
Punchy, oily, creamy, more leather notes, subtle sweetness, oaky, fragrant, rose water, flowery not to say a touch of soap, but still in a good way
    • Finish
Long and warm, more oak wood, zesty

  6. detachedblue scored this whisky 93 points Connoisseur

Amazingly fresh for a 40 YO, perfect peat and oak integration.
    • Nose
Raw walnuts in rose water, weak peat is behind, very seductive, fermented beans and sorghum, sea wind, very complex
    • Taste
Initially walnut water then ginger, mint and sour barley, then chocolates, dates and leather, very fresh, little tannins.  Dynamic
    • Finish
Long, ginger, milk chocolates, violets, meat soup

  7. Mr.Sandwich scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

    Official notes from Douglas Laing:

A fresh distinctly malted nose opens with vanilla, spices, tobacco and toffee. The tongue tingling palate is gingery and sugary, and moves to an interesting finish with molasses, smoke, spices and late oak.

    Around 470 €
