Mine will soon be empty, yay. Guests drank it, I don't regret it a bit.

Well I suspect it would have been really good as a expensive variant that has matured for many years. So it is just fine with a few flaws. And probably far too expensive for that. Nevertheless, thanks for the transparency regarding the casks. Not every distillery does that. Full review (german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2020/09/28/noch-mehr-speyside-im-glas/

Not much going on with this whisky. Drinkable but very shallow.
No depth and no aftertaste, a bad buy. It was a bitter disappointment. After all, when guests come who can't appreciate really good whiskys, I have something again that I can set up without my regrets. I only read dRambo's note afterwards. Hahaha, he's absolutely right. Would have rather donated the money to the animal shelter than buy another Schottenfusel. I let myself be persuaded that it was good, that's the receipt. The second worst in my portfolio. Only the Laphroaig PX Cask is worse. And that's what a PX fan says. Compared to the similar Glendronach, significantly less meat on the bone.

yes that is whisky, yes you can drink it - honestly - I only poured the 2nd dram to conscientiously verify my opinion of the first try - the rest is given away - I absolutely cannot understand how you give the stuff 90+ points can give - actually not even how you can get over 86. Without wanting to accuse anyone of anything, I get the impression of pink glasses, self-justification for the expensive purchase price, or do you all have the basement full of the stuff? :)
A dear guest brought me a bottle and we opened it together - so I don't care about the price - I just don't understand these ratings.

Retasting - well aired much better
    • Nose
      88 88
smooth, acidic, creamy but monotonous sherrynose with no special features, a hint of caramel and vanilla, then rather bitter walnut shells and dry tannins, furniture polish, behind which there is a clear, youthful metallic note that stings slightly
    • Taste
      86 86
beautiful sweet and sour sherry aromas, red berries, orange, roasted almonds, but also here metallic youth - the first impression is more like 85+ then it becomes bitter and young - that just seems cheap - I give the sensory a maximum of 10 years of barrel aging, beautiful barrels - too little Time, he's noticeably biting his tongue without water
    • Finish
      86 86
warms very strongly, roasted aromas, waxy, the fruit notes are quickly gone, it warms for a long time, nothing burns here anymore

frankly, a little disappointment. The Sienna for comparison was so much tastier and more mature. The Classic Cut has power, but still too much youth to be able to play seriously. He almost breaks up with water.
    • Nose
The nose is strong, sherry, but also beautiful oak notes, a little more fruity (than the Sienna) and tends to younger. Even a touch of caraway is there. It becomes very fruity with water and can no longer hide the youth.
    • Taste
In the mouth then very pure, almost sprightly, hints of fruit and milk chocolate. Harmless with water, some fruit, some oak.
    • Finish
if the alcohol is gone cocoa, milk chocolate, oak, sherry, quite creamy and delicious.

    • Nose
      88 88
Quite a thick nose. Raisins, chocolate, plumes, sugar syrup. cherries, caramel, vanilla, with a slight creamy note
    • Taste
      82 82
Oak, dark chocolate, clove. Rather warm and hot from the alcohol. More oak, black pepper spicy, together with some burned notes... not that pleasant. With time more cherries.
    • Finish
      84 84
Dry and spicy, but not very long.

  12. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Wow, that's a really good Macallan again. The cask strength is doing really well.
    • Nose
A full barrage of sherry, raisins, but also lighter red fruits, fresh and fruity, dark chocolate, espresso, slightly leathery, a bit like the 12er but much more intense, some menthol, lumumba, slightly nutty, roasted
    • Taste
intense, roasted nuts, hanuta, raisins, heavy sherry notes, espresso, slightly bitter dryness, bittersweet, some oak, now it is fresher, slightly lighter, the nuts are omnipresent, the fruits are lighter again with very light acidity
    • Finish
Fairly creamy on the finish, some fruit peel, hazelnut, a potpourri of fruit, long-lasting

  13. thijs100 scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

A very modern whisky where it feels like the oak is doing pretty much everything, and the spirit doesn't have a whole lot to say.
    • Nose
Very expressive, it jumps out of the glass. Lots of sultanas, raisins and the sort. And by lots, I mean probably more dominant than I've ever encountered. Also vanilla, honey and nutmeg. Finally a slight burnished note, which is not okay.
    • Taste
Nice and creamy stuff. Lots of caramel and vanilla, and a hint of cherry syrup. The honey makes an encore on the palate, which is also quite spicy. The oak is pretty present as well.
    • Finish
Bitter fresh ginger, oak and sweet caramel.

    • Nose
Dark fruit (sultanas, raisins, prunes), sweet, sherry, oaky, vanilla, honey, spicy (ginger, nutmeg)
    • Taste
Sweet, red fruit (cherries, berries), caramel, spicy (nutmeg, ginger, pepper), vanilla, chocolate, oranges, lemons
    • Finish
      Long, dry, oaky, spicy

Love this bottle the minute i opend it . the smell, the smooth color palet on this abv. Better then i espacted . Much better.
    • Nose
what a nose... just maybe i sniff another sample before from a japanese brand but, the sweet cherry oak nice fruit and caramel/ chocolate.
    • Taste
very subtile for this strong beast! almost unbelieveble soft. very smooth , fruit , light oak and again caramel, fading to orange fruit , ginger, nuts...
    • Finish
ginger! pretty long then going to sweet oak.
