A very pleasant and intelligible drink. But simplicity is worse than stealing. For a relaxed conversation with friends in nature - just right!

It is always good to revisi a classic.

A nice floral, light, citrical whisky at a reasonable price.

It is very easy to drink. For people who is starting in the jouney of whisky it is a ideal whisky. Moreover it is not expensive.

It is not a complex whisky.

Imagine Chivas Regal but less boring. Certainly not interesting but definitely an enjoyable, easy drinker.

  8. Robinzon25 scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

A very fresh summer whisky with no pretense for thoughtful tasting.
    • Nose
Gummies, candies, green apples and pears, some spices.
    • Taste
Citruses, pear seed, herbal note, young tannins.
    • Finish
Short, dry, filled with hints of green pear, lemon peel and pepper. At the end, the mouth is a little knit with tannins.

Cardhu 12 yo, 40%. Golden yellow with a brown tinge to it. Aroma is pink lemonade next to an egg custard tart. Slight raspberry notes behind the shandy and wood chip. Not the character I was expecting. Interesting. Taste carries on with the shandy made with cask bitter, woody in quite a 'literal' or straight-forward way, just some woody tannin and basic wood flavours evocative mainly of wood (and therefore lacking the complexity of so many others). Easy going, as you would expect at the abv. Salty finish with a rising warmth at the back of the palate the more you drink. Pretty much straight down the middle. Probably a good benchmark for a bang-average, good enough to buy and drink - but only just - sort of a whisky. Character is bland enough to have wide appeal and punchy enough not to disappoint the enthusiast. There are so many very solid blends and malts at a similar price that would be preferable. (3.2/77)

    Fruit Salad

Whisky lovers like you and me sometimes forget about what I would call ‘the basics’. We are so spoiled with the liquid nectar that we no longer stand still to try the stuff we all started with – well, at least I am guilty of this. Returning to the basics is actually a good idea, so let me set an example. Today I will try the Cardhu 12, the heart of many a Johnnie Walker blend and very popular in southern Europe.

Very sweet and mildly floral nose on citrus fruit, banana, apples and sweet malt. Some vanilla wafers and sultanas, a fruit salad with a mildly oaky touch. Very innocent but inviting at the same time.

On the palate, this is a liquid fruit salad with apples, pears, mandarin and green grapes. A hint of papaya and even some pineapple, upholstered with some ginger, lightly toasted oak and floral honey. Very quaffable, very summery, very approachable.

The finish might be somewhat short, but a bittersweet note makes is quite pleasant.

A card players’ whisky if ever there was one. Underestimate by many, in my opinion. Quite the bargain at only 30 EUR.

Sweet, citrusy, and floral. The nose becomes almost citrus laundry detergent at times, but in a good way. The taste is sweet at first, but becomes spicier and more bitter and herbal toward the finish. The palate rushes into the finish quickly. Not amazing, but not bad either.
    • Nose
Nag champa and mixed raw dried grains, nutmeg and clove, cinnamon coated baked apples, mixed fresh fruits, malt and citrus peels, vanilla wafers and light oak, and lemon cordial with a floral note riding on the final alcohol burn.
    • Taste
Fresh fruits (apples, pears, and tangerines) and gentle dried fruits (dates, papaya, pineapple), malt and a touch of molasses, fresh ginger and floral honey, sweet osmanthus, and oak tannins
    • Finish
Baking spices, Cafe macchiato, light oak and barrel char with a lingering bitter-sweet floral maltiness.
