Whisky Reviews for Monkey Shoulder Batch 9 - Smokey Monkey

Open, peat-mineral, with the aroma of burnt wood, caramel and sea, the taste is watery, empty, with nuances of haze and oak, the finish is flat, slightly bitter, oak-smoked.
Well, this is not a failure, even I would say. The aroma, of course, tries to pass this blended malt for something serious, but the taste and finish immediately put everything in its place. But it is without defects, it can be drunk.

A decent dram to quaff with friends - it will accompany conversation rather than make you all fall silent in admiration of it, not a dram to inspire silent contemplation.

The smoke is gentle on the nose.
    • Taste
      81 81
It feels a little thin compared to some, but the flavour is pleasant, gentle peat notes with a little heat.
    • Finish
      81 81
Quite a short aftertaste, but pleasant.

monkey shoulder was my first whiskey so I was very curious about this smokey monkey.

I found it a bit watery but otherwise a good blend.
looked very like the original monkey shoulder but then with light smoke in it.

for me no added value. but certainly no wrong whiskey

After the batch 27 Smooth and Rich now the second Monkey Shoulder, which is basically reminiscent of the first, but in addition to the naturally new smoke and a bit more complex overall. In my opinion, a very successful blend, only the price and the availability is a bit irritating. Well, the one after the other, but after the announcement nine months ago should be able to get all the clubs and bars at a small and a release at the whiskey traders is about time.
    • Nose
Fresh smoke, butterscotch, peach, orange, some lime in the background.
    • Taste
Well-dosed cigar smoke with butterscotch and lemon, strong nut chocolate and coffee, an orange taste suggests the influence of ex-sherry casks, apple and honey, barley, creamy overall.
    • Finish
Mild smoke and oak, nut and fruit accompany the short to medium-long finish, which at the end melts sweet chocolate.

    A little belated marketing ploy.
Aroma: sour peat, moist earth, burned lists, minerality, and medicine. All in one!
The taste is watery. A powerful peat strike, with the expectation of pulling out due to this ???
Naturally, there is a finish, with such an attack of smoke and burnt wood ...
This is definitely not a failure. You can swell, BUT! no need to tell how many single malt regulars are there much more interesting than that?

A pleasant aroma, but a failure in taste due to the low percentage of alcohol
