medicinal peat, iodine, bacon, fruits on cooked citrus, classic or something else?
    • Nose
      meat peat, meaty, sweet,
      a little herbs, menthol
      cooked fruit, wall
    • Taste
      cream buttered peat !!
meat, with a slice of bacon,
      sweet spices,
candied citrus, still caramelized sugar, almost overcooked, some very hot coffee too.
it's hot and good at the same time as a caramelized milk jam
    • Finish
medium to long on the same aromas, with peat and meat at first sight

A large Ledaig with a wide aromatic palette, the nose is sublime!
    • Nose
The nose is a marvel, the peat is discreet behind the fruits and flowers, we find the mineral and meaty side of Ledaig and an explosion of floral scents, it's very thin like a Japanese!
    • Taste
On the palate, a lot of flavors there too, peat is very present, liquorice, bacon, then the spices arrive, the pepper that raises everything.
    • Finish
The finish is long and very floral, covered with a veil of smoke.

Blind buy, and I should have known it: way too much sulfur (SO2), like many of these 2005 SV Ledaigs :(
OK: bottle fresh opened, so I´ve to wait if this flaw calms down with opening time.  But experience says not really.

Despite this flaw a really big one.

16.04.18 half bottle emptied, the sulfuric notes are still very present but now, let´s say, better integrated in the typical farmy Ledaig smoke profile. Not a such disturbing experience anymore. Two points up (from 87 to 89).

Closed and shy at the beginning and take a while for it to open up. Moldy coco smokes with good caramelized green apple. Packed with oily nuttiness derived from the sherry butt, much one dimensional with wood driven that have had masked the saltiness and usual marine notes. Salted olive oil. Medium length.

Nose : First nosing is quite medicinal (iodine), farmy and strong. The peaty sherry aromas come afterwards with smoke, grilled bacon, spices, nuts, dried fruits, orange zest, chocolate, coffee. The nose becomes more subtle and refined with aeration. I sense some earthy and mineral notes and maybe coastal ones in the background. Whiffs of tobacco too.

Mouth : The attack is sharp. Smoky, meaty, spicy. Flavours from the nose indeed with chocolate, coffee, nuts too. A pinch of salt, liquorice and a few berries.

    Finish : Long, smoky, drying.

I will make it short. What a fantastic Ledaig. Complex and tasty. And the bottle was just opened !
