It's very good. A rather austere profile where the usual fruits give way to herbaceous and bitter notes that, combined with wax and spices, are an end-to-end delight.
    • Nose
Lemon wax, mineral and chalky notes. One swims in full Clynelish ... The end of glass, well ventilated is more greedy: the marine side affirms associated with sweet spices.
    • Taste
Beautiful attack, virile but correct: the wax is there, dominated by a plant bitterness very herbaceous, based on unidentified roots but the most beautiful effect. A little lemon before a finish where only the cold candle lives. By taking care of it, the mouth becomes more raised with the appearance of spices, citrus fruits assert themselves, and the bitterness sets back. Everything stays perfectly balanced.
    • Finish
Long enough on the bitterness and wax that dissipate on a certain dryness, which decreases as the spices rise with aeration.

Serj @ Whiskyfun rated 91 points:

It’s so refreshing that more and more good people would emphasize on distilling rather than wood (whisky’s crutch!) Rather like the Roy-Liechtensteiny label too (Whaam!). Colour: white wine. Nose: this one’s got more citrus, it’s a more ‘traditional’ Clynelish, with citrons and tangerines, then rather lemon marmalade. But the costal minerality isn’t far away, and so is the plasticine. Typical. With water: fresh plaster and proper bone-dry sauvignon blanc. Mouth (neat): indeed, very typical. Waxy lemons and pink grapefruits, plus a few bitter herbs and always a chalkiness. One of the best of the mid-1990s in my book. With water: classic. Swims greatly. Finish: rather long, with more waxy aspects coming out. Beeswax, for example. Comments: this baby from one of the sub-brands within the tentacular TWE konzern ;-). I think quality’s extremely high. Spitzenklasse, as they say in Italy. SGP:552 - 91 points.

Very good, no big fault, but hardly excite me. 88/89
    • Nose
      Fruity nose, woody and waxed.
Green apple, pear, white peach, pineapple.
      White flower, wax, fresh mint.
      Grape seed oil.
      Light minerality. Salt.
      Pretty austere.
    • Taste
In the mouth it's more greedy.
Fruits above all: apple, peach, pineapple, papaya.
      Black pepper, dark chocolate.
      Fresh herb, fresh mint.
Leather. Wooded. Salt. Very slight smoke.
      A bit bitter.
    • Finish
Finale on minerality, citrus fruits (lemon candy), wax, and a residue of smoke.

  9. Rosebank88 scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Wonderfully aromatic, complex and filigree composition. First earthy, salty and then wonderfully waxy. Freshly squeezed grape juice, grape oil, mineral notes, citrus zests and oak. Mature fruitiness over time. With water: sweeter, less focused, very awesome, herbal king, salt, aromatic fruitiness and nuts.
    • Taste
Wonderfully aromatic, fruity, tart herb tones, salt, citrus zests and extremely complex composition. With water: incredibly aromatic, awesome, tart and fruity with raspberry, nutty and just delicious!
    • Finish
Very long. Typically waxy, oak citrus, mineral notes and nuts.

This Clynelish score was executed brilliantly, without originality, but in a very impressive volume - and that's what I will remember. Enthusiasm Nose 3/5 Mouth and final 4/5 Whisky n ° 1629
    • Nose
At first a little closed, he delivers the usual wax, a pastry side, a few apples. A side a little mineral and watery. Nothing more with water ...
    • Taste
What volume! Well spiced, sweet in texture, it is superbly balanced. With water, it is juicier, more austere also paradoxically, what a presence!
    • Finish
      Very long on malt.

N: A good example of a ‘new-skool’ whisky. Becomes more oily with water.
T: A bit tannic with very light waxy barley.
    F: [no notes]
C: I know peeps who raved about this. It didn’t quite do it for me in relation to what had gone before, but we did start extremely high.Scores a B[-]
