    Conclusion and pictures on: https://tomtrinkt.de
    • Nose
My first impression is dominated by pleasant sherry influences and fresh (salty sea air) as well as floral notes. The alcohol (46.3%) is very well integrated and not noticeable. Sweet honey, nice caramel flavors, oranges, cherries, marzipan, lightly roasted malt, nuts, chocolate, spicy oak and a very soft hint of smoke are slowly rising from my glass. The scent is very full-bodied and strong. The beautiful complexity always surprises me again for a "only" 12 years old standard whisky.
    • Taste
Strong start with a pleasantly oily texture. A slight tingling puts on the tongue tip (pepper / ginger). Sweet honey and caramel notes are immediately present and form the basis of taste. Toasted malt, walnuts, cocoa / chocolate, spices, ripe apples, oranges and dark sherry fruits (plums & cherries) mingle with the sweet foundation. The spicy oak notes intensify slightly in comparison to the nose and round off the aromatic variety with a maritime touch. Deeply hidden in the background, I register again a soft smoky note. The malt is wonderfully soft, varied and balanced. But beware: dangerously tasty!
    • Finish
Medium to long, spicy-sweet and warm. Mild sherry notes, caramel, malt and nutty chocolate gently end the Bunnahabhain. The spicy oak notes are palpable, but never too intrusive or dominant. I perceive neither bitterness nor dryness on the palate.

Very good, in a sniffer it develops into bright dried fruits without losing its pleasant creaminess and roundness.
    • Nose
Raisins, dried apricots, ripe cherries, cream, wood chips, a little vanilla, a little red ripe apples.
    • Taste
Sweet, sherry, creamy. Almost completely echoes the aroma with a dominant effect in raisins and dried apricots.
    • Finish
Medium-long, sweet and creamy with a touch of salt. A piece of wood, a handful of dried fruits and nuts, and again creaminess.

What a nice standard. The 46.3% fit perfectly. The focus has been moved a bit far in the direction of the sherry barrel, but he is good to face.
    • Nose

Sherry-stressed heavy and intense nose with overripe grapes, raisins, dates, prunes. Chopped hazelnuts and almonds. Orange jam. Canned peaches. Some cinnamon and marjoram. A hint of sea air.
    • Taste
      88 88
Dry and on the tongue sherrybetonter entrance. Instant dry oak with raisins and dried apricots. Slightly salty and a hint of smoke. Mild herbs and spices. Hazelnuts, almonds, honey, caramel sweets. Marzipanbrot. Rapid astringent.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium long and extremely dry. Still the dried fruits from the nose and tongue. Oak and a hint of smoke.

Comparative tasting of the Bunnahabhain 12 (2016 - old design) and 12 (2019 - new design). Very nice sherry casks in both versions, but 2016 seems more restrained, less forced on wood, while 2019 is brighter and more sappy. 2016 is noticably darker in colour than 2019 (both uncoloured) which alludes to more refill being used in newer bottlings. Probably the same old song of fewer quality casks around. The older version scores higher for a more complex and less strained experience. Both are great quality unpeated islay sherry whiskies and a good price for 12 years.

Sweet, dark fruits, raisins, bright sherry, freshly cut oak, slightly leathery, faint oily scent. Something flinty, burnt granite from a fireplace.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet & sour oaky sugar sap, sultanas, figs, dried apricot. Slightly salty, minerally. Dirty oily soily in a strangely well mannered fashion. Quite pleasant, but also a little exhausting for the palate.
    • Finish
      85 85
Drying on fruit and oak, medium lenght. Not terribly eventful.

Es look. No, smell it first. Deep pededal raisins, apricots. Awesome. Sherrybom first class, Glendronach Allardice 18 comes to mind. Taste just as impressive as the smell predicts. Toffee, caramel, magic balls, raisins in the distance - if you look well, definitely not compelling. Fine wood in the soft dry finish. Wow. Torch roof.
2/2 Seriously tasting, after Glenmorangie 10 & QR as an appetizer: great scent, Islay or not - I don't smell peat. Again very tasty, with some peppermint filling as in after eight. Delicious dry sherry aftertaste. Still nothing, no peat. TO BUY!
