Whisky Reviews for Suntory Special Reserve Whisky

- The smell is single and the taste is mild. It will be better for highball. The ending rhyme is quite short, I have drank two bottles, but will not repurchase again.
- As for as I can tell, this is a bottle from 1990-96. Bought for ¥1600 at auction, plus shipping.
Appearance: Somewhat pale orange-amber. A touch paler than the present version.
Nose: Spicy, woodsy, menthol, citrus, very much Hakushu-led. Light wood spice notes. Fresh, floral, honey and oak.
Palate: Honey, vanilla, caramel, spices. Ginger, oak, biscuits, light stone fruit. Tiny bit of smoke. Seems high in malt.
Finish: Oak, spices, lingering vanilla and honey.
With Water: Smoother, silkier, sweeter, less oak and spice. More tamed but less interesting.
Overall: Full, rich body, high malt content, nice age, and very spicy. A complex blend that crushes the present-day Reserve, and is probably near as good as Hibiki Harmony.
