- ● The dress.
Yellow gold, regular tears, large with large drops.
● The nose.
Ample and caramelized, a lot of vanilla and a greedy wood, the primitive fresh cereals, chestnut honey, fir wood on confit cypress fruit and liquorice.
● The mouth.
The texture is tender and syrupy, a smoke sweet, floral and dark at the same time, cereals and black honey and spicy.
Burnt fir wood and cypress syrup.
● The final.
Long on smoke and rock, wood and straw.
A pleasant expression, fine and flowery, a nice aperitif.
If it were to be given a subjective note, it would be an 87.
Named after a flower, this is one of a botanical series - the Japanese Flora n Fauna range if you will.
N: Floral and mineral with ash, or peat?
T: The US oak speaks now with a touch of sherry, ash and butterscotch - all rather young.
F: Lingers temporarily.
C: Contemporary, rounded, youthful style. There are 11000 bottles of this NAS whisky, so why it’s commanding around €130 online [Sept ’18] is mind boggling.

- In the nose still unbalanced and getting used to, I like the Shinanotanpopo in terms of taste and on the finish really well. 11000 bottles are there of it? I am tempted to buy one of them, despite the (too) high price.
At first glance, it seems to be young and fresh, but initially not felt much of the (allegedly) used 20-year-old (sherry) barrels. More sourish fruit meets young, strong smoke with some honey and oak. A few floral notes are indeed to be found, but in no way to compare with those who like to Scottish Malts (for example, from the Speyside) ascribes. This is actually more in the direction of herb meadow.
Surprise - the smoke so dominant in the nose hardly felt on the tongue. Instead, here is a pleasant (fruit) sweetness with lots of honey and tropical fruits. Now works much more mature than in the nose and comes out completely without disturbing notes. Harmonious, pleasant - delicious. Apparently here now used sherry and mature ex-Bourbon barrels noticeable noticeable, the taste at least a blatant (positive) contrast to the nose.
Medium long and a nice change bath. First of all, the fruity sweet notes from the palate, which then turn into very subtle smoke and minimal oak. No dryness, no bitterness. Really nice!
