The 2007/2017 is overall a little more tender, elegant and rounder than the 2006/2016, unfortunately has a little less smoke and fortunately less fermented fruit in the aroma.
With the Talisker Distillers Edition it is important to know that the whisky in the bottle still needs a lot of time and oxygen to give a harmonious overall picture. Every time I open a new Talisker Distillers Edition, I ask myself why I liked it so much ...? And once a third of the content has been used up and the bottle has been on the shelf for a few months, I'm overwhelmed every time how delicious it has turned out, which seemed hard to imagine after opening.
    • Nose
Maritime smoke, a little less than the 2006/2016. Oranges, cloves, lots of vanilla, honey, marzipan, melon, oak seasoning.
    • Taste
Slightly peppery start. Oranges, oak, smoke, melon, heather.
    • Finish
      Medium-long finish. Oak, grapefruit, vanilla.

    • Nose
Sweet peat, bbq, brine, lemon, vanilla
    • Taste
Sweet and smoky, creamy, wine adds a layer of complexity and a tang,
    • Finish
Smoke and wine stay, sweetness and brine finish. A bit short

    • Nose
      86 86
Soft and mild with fruity and a little smoke. Later a light spice and spiciness of pepper is added.
    • Taste
      87 87
Nicely balanced between fruit, spiciness and smoke. But gradually the pepper sharpness comes through. The spiciness of the pepper is more intense with the second sip.
    • Finish
      87 87
A strong, long and spicy finish.

This is the nose of the 10 year old Talisker, with more smoke to begin with. Also a softer, woody undertone. Then the sherry rises, creamy, red fruits, elastic, leather, caramel. It's heady, deep, wet. Cherry, blackcurrant, blackberries. You have to wait a good ten minutes before the peat is felt.
On the palate, it is smooth, olive oil, vanilla, red plum, caramelized waffle, sponge cake. The pepper is light, the finish is very successful, long, with cola, a little soot, tobacco, liquorice, melted chocolate. An ounce of tannins in the retro-olfaction, it reminds of port.

    Surprising whisky!
Tasting notes also available in french on the whisky blog ;) http://www.justanotherdram.com/en/tasting-notes/talisker-distillers-edition-amoroso-2.html
    • Nose
The fruits are surprisingly more present than the peat, just because it is quickly felt but remains in the background. We are on a delicate mix of grapes and red fruits. A light smoke and … I do not know what makes me think of a walk in the woods (sometimes we have images like that difficult to describe more precisely, but if it can reassure you it does not smell the squirrel’s dung :p).
    • Taste
The peat takes its place (after all, it is a Talisker!), Accompanied by woody and peppery touches. The fruits take a stewed form, really sweet. It is pleasantly delicate, sweet and… sweet. This is the first time that a Talisker has this effect to me, it could reconcile the most recalcitrant peaple with peat.
    • Finish
Medium length, peat and fruits in a nice balance. Amazing, and surprising, really.

  6. KayMeertens scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A more prominent sherry influence than in the 2005-2015 edition.
    • Nose
A thick layer of red fruitiness (cranberry, blueberry) over the peat. Also some caramel.
    • Taste
The peat more on the foreground now, with the fruitiness behind it.
    • Finish
The cranberry comes back to the front, but the peat stays as well of course. Some fig in the background.

tasted 4.5 months after opening. Inspiring development. Wonderful harmony of maritime smoke with chilli catch, sweetness of the sherry barrel (Amoroso), vanilla and citrus (grapefruit). For me it is perfectly balanced and superior to the 10yo, so that the additional price is fully justified
    • Nose
Sea, iodine and peat perfectly combined with grape-like sweetness. Red fruits, orange and grapefruit, vanilla, heather
    • Taste
powerful, pleasantly spicy, chili notes well integrated and not too intrusive. Otherwise like nosing
    • Finish
long, full-bodied, strongly stimulating the flow of saliva - everything available that nose and palate offered.

A recognizable profile of the drink.
    • Nose
      84 84
A little smoke, sweet dried fruits, raisins, prunes, dates. A little salt and iodine.
    • Taste
      85 85
The taste is sweet, consisting of dark dried fruits and berries, a little smoky with a hint of salt and dryness.
    • Finish
      84 84
      Sweet, smoky, medium duration.
