    I'm quite sure I'd appreciate it (even) more with more time and more oxidization. Because, hey, it's 44yo, it deserves it ! As a first take, I'd say it's excellent quality*age/price ratio, and that it's overall very very good, if not totally unforgettable. Great profile, great Lochside influence, and great way to kind of taste a piece of history without breaking the bank.
    • Nose
      It's not one of those blends you could mistake for a single malt, because the grain speaks. Very politely mind you, but still : flowery and solventy touches are what strike first, with quite a deal of fresh coconut, and a pinch of cinnamon. But on the other hand, the "Peachy-Pastry" Lochside duo is simply unmistakable. Needs breathing, but very good and fresh. Feels above 41%.
    • Taste
      Same comment, glad to see it punches above its weight. Feels a bit more extractive now, but sure the peach is still here, very ripe in the almost-bitter sense, not that sweet, with a good deal of green melon, coconut shavings and just plain wood now.
    • Finish
      Feels more extractive again, still very good with a fair deal of liqueurish fruitiness but there's quite a pack of fresh green oak as well.

    Blindtasting !! My first idea - really old (~ 40yo +) high quality grain from good barrels - however, my experience in the field is very low, the rum / cognac / Irish / chocolate notes suggest to me - based on the age estimate, the alcohol content would probably be in the lower to middle 40's (43-46%) - while chewing / sucking is still to find alcohol - but only as a cozy warmth on the tongue. The complexity is impressive - and I suspect a GrainBlend with Malt share here. He is rather subtle, quiet, shy (except for the RumSahneSchokoVanillenote - which is "InYourFace") - he is also not very intense - until he shows all his great grades, you have to have a good third of his drums in his mouth - I still like it very much - it's not difficult, because I can not see that price tag right now. I would tip a price of 200-250 € to 0.7l. I could understand it - if someone at the price was disappointed with the quality - I would not - but I would not need more than 10cl from here - not because he does not taste - I guess - that then I would have decrypted everything and what new wanted.

      Sweet, milk chocolate with rum raisins, a lot of vanilla, slightly dusty - warm - oak tones, they are complex - from grinding dust, over resinous freshly cut but deposited until worm-eaten, dry old and rotten with low calorific value (old pew, age-old furniture) but rather discreet, light herbaceous ethereal plant aromas (rosemary, camphor) (you could also smell glue here) - laurel leaves, green fresh peeled bark of twigs, an initially oily component of the nose, opens warmed in sour fruity oranges and mild citrus notes
    • Taste
      oily full very mild, first nothing happens, then suddenly oily oak with nice spice, nutmeg, mint, pepper, allspice, astringent over the tongue, orange and apple flashes - then sweet cherries, rumrosines, amaretto, coffee liqueur, Baileys, the Creamy, creamy, alcoholic dessert notes alternate - from Black Forest cherry cake with rose water and cherry spirit, to alcoholic tiramisu, to a mousse-au-chocolat with a dash. With the next sip, exactly the same happens again - fascinating - only this time it turns out a bit drier and the mixture of rum raisins, cream and white chocolate gets more dominance - oak aromas cumulate to more spice and a balanced overall note, nutmeg and tobacco is added, a little chili, fresh mint again, and a tart fruity tingling touch that reminds me of red Crimean champagne.

      Rumrosines, light astringent wood, light waxy notes, espresso with sugar and cream - a mixture of After Eight and Ritter Sport Rum Graube Nut remains long on the tongue with a pinch of freshly grated oak and tobacco

    Ha yes, there is no need to say, old whiskeys like that, it has another dimension than the young NAS, huh! If the final is a bit too short for my taste, the rest is just top. A superb blend. And that mouth, my ancestors! Too much succulent, one of the best I've had to taste. If this traffic jam is only the Silver, I look forward to the Gold (and if The Cooper's Choice wants to make a Platinum, he does not hesitate either ;-)).
    • Nose
      Sweet, fine, sweet, and greedy. Exotic spices, flambé banana, dry white grapes, sweet tobacco, a good dose of wood, oily almond, and vanilla. Among others.
    • Taste
      It looks at first wise, even shy. But after a few seconds the flavors tumble. And at that moment, it's of extreme finesse and delicacy. Ultra-ripe banana dominates, melting. Woody vanilla liqueur. Milk chocolate biscuit, and dark chocolate orangette. Sweet spices here and there. Waw, how good it is!

      Quite short, compared to the mouth that was so tasty. Woody, black banana peel, traces of chocolate with orange.

      Ui. I think I'll do fine for a few minutes. The first splash is reminiscent of adhesive. After a few minutes she is a bit more discreet. She is still present. Ester. Then rum. Vanilla. Peach. Bounty chocolate bar. Eucalyptus menthol candies. Dusty, dry wooden boards. For the age a relatively fresh nose.
    • Taste
      Just a note that I almost always had at Grains but can not describe. Is somehow such an artificial sweetness. Very mild and creamy. Then coconut. Bitter almond aroma for baking. Apricot liqueur. Then the oak comes on and it spicy and a slight spiciness spreads. Walnut.

      The sweetness stays and mixes with the bitterness of the oak. Rum raisins.

    • Nose
      Leather, herbs, cedar (a first for me, I think!). Vanilla: elegant, fine and deep. Very round. Almond milk and some fresh fruit at the opening.
    • Taste
      What flexibility ! Milky and vanilla, there are some chocolate notes. Very sweet spices.
    • Finish
      Finish chocolate of all beauty! Big evocation of a White Russian #madeleinedeproust! The spices are slightly raised compared to the mouth but they fade quickly.

    Now the bottle was open for several months and again and again a few drams were taken. What can I say? He did not apply, he won. No smell or taste to taste any bad notes, which has a very, very fine and round bouquet. For some maybe too round, but not for me. A really good, very old blend in which all the individual components form a very harmonious whole, without the boredom arises at any time. On the contrary, there is a lot to discover and it becomes increasingly dangerous and enjoyable.

    The grain in the blend is already pretty dominant. Only after a few minutes will come clearly more complex flavors to light. So the whiskey needs some time in the glass. I would have liked a bit more strength and also a slightly longer finish. But overall this is quite a decent whiskey, which one notes the age positively.

      In the beginning an overwhelming solvent note. After a while, it releases more aromas. This is followed by malt and a certain acidulous note, creamy toffee, later citrus fruits. After a long time in the glass then spicy-peppery, tobacco, green tea
    • Taste
      Sweet grainy notes, caramel sweets, coffee saliva stimulating, alcohol just strong enough
    • Finish
      Pretty long finish with dark berries, coffee and some bitterness, which after some time, however, turns into a surprising, lasting sweetness.
