A nice ripening - the 2002 looks a bit unbalanced compared to the 2000!

      very fruity (plums, plums), vanilla, sweetness, some oak;

This bottle of whisky is amazing!

I love the Dalwhinnie 15, it has unmatched honey, floral aroma and depth at an unbelievably low price point, it's almost the epitome of Ex-Bourbon cask, and I'm sure every whisky drinker will love it.

And this version is even better, put the ordinary Dalwhinnie in the Oloroso Sherry cask finish, fully absorbing Oloroso's berries, raisins, ginger and other aromas.

It's stunning from the Nose, almost thinking it's an aged wine. Flavors of berries, raisins, vanilla, oak.

Taste The longer a whisky is left in the mouth, the more fully its value will be felt. At the beginning, it is the element of sherry, with bitter berries and sweet, dry feeling similar to tannin in the mouth, and then some distinct Dalwhinnie elements quietly ooze out in the background: honey, floral, refreshing vanilla cream cake.

Finish: It lingers in the throat for a long time, which is great.

I didn't expect the refreshing Dalwhinnie to become such a complex and wonderful liquid after being stored in Oloroso cask. I immediately believed that it could become one of my regular wines. I like it very much.
Moreover, such an excellent whisky can be obtained for only 1500NTD. It is really a gift from God, and I will continue to buy it with gratitude.
    A very good whisky! !

The sum of the taste is 87 points, and the price +1 point, a total of 88 points.

    Color gold
    - if you drink it straight it is very fruity if you drink it
but keeps it in the mouth for a while it becomes very powerful
    lots of power and oak
    - but don't see it as nicely balanced as they do
    Previous bottling from 2016
    - about 50-60€ are still worthwhile for this one
    basically always good whisky
    • Nose
very fruity (plums, plums), vanilla, sweetness, some oak
    • Taste
sweet fruity start; Powerful, dry sherry, plums, honey, more and more oak, becoming spicier/bitter, somewhat off-round
    • Finish
      medium length, becoming dry finish ;
Bitterly lingering oak, medium to long, very fruity, slightly spicy aftertaste, salivating and very concise

I wasn't expecting much from this bottling, but was pleasantly surprised. An easy-drinking dram in the best sense of the word: tasty, but also quickly gone.
    • Nose
The first notes of the nose are clearly dominated by the bourbon cask: vanilla meets fresh, mown grass and yellow apples. Only after some time do the Oloroso notes come into their own with honey, wood and almonds.
    • Taste
The first mouthfeel is oily but quickly becomes a little watery. I haven't had that either. The taste is dominated by red grapes and red apples, brown sugar, orange zest and malt.
    • Finish
The finish is unfortunately a bit short and leaves traces of berry jam, a hint of coffee and lots of sweetness.

Slightly raw on the nose, what i mean by that is slightly rough but sometimes that adds to the appeal, hopefully this is like that.
The palate has enough spice and power to get you interested, and sweeter than others in the tasting with a little mango and the faintest apricot but could be peach?
Finish is pretty long remaining spicy with a pepper kick on the tail.

    Gentle

Dalwhinnie is sometimes referred to as ‘The Gentle Spirit’. Well, it is definitely mentioned on the neck label of the classic 15 years old, but this Distillers Edition is also softened up a little bit, for lack of a better expression, by the fact that it got a second maturation on oloroso sherry casks. This is the expression that was released a few years ago, in 2017. I am putting it head-to-head with the release from 2019.

The nose immediately reveals the influence of the sherry by adding wonderful, soft, round, fruity notes to the classic profile. Yellow stone fruit, mostly. Peach, apricot, mango. Feel free to call this mildly tropical. A good dollop of honey and some almonds make it complete. Gentle is indeed the keyword.

It is nicely fatty in the mouth. The sweetness from the nose is joined by some soft spices. Think nutmeg, cloves and a bit of quinine. The fruit evolves towards the candied variety. Reminds me a bit of fruit tea that was left forgotten, with a mildly drying effect.

In the medium long finish I get some orange liqueur and coffee bonbons.

A beautiful after dinner dram, that is a bit underrated in my opinion. Thanks, Pat!

Dalwhinnie Distiller's Edition 2002 - 2017 Oloroso Cask Finísh (43%). Aroma is biscuity, cat and dog paws, nice mixed biscuity notes, faint lemongrass and turmeric. Taste is juicy and crisp barley, softest sherry notes and quite rounded pleasant peatsmoke, very tasty rounded whisky with subtle complexity. Lots of subtle notes of biscuit, dried flowers, barley, peat, oak. Yeah that's good 3.85/92

First sniff is a bit of a reminiscent of the Bowmore 15Y old for me, obviously because of the 'Oloroso' note.

      Caramel, apricot becoming almondy, oak.
Soft and fluffy sponge cake, vanilla. Red grapes, raisin, fudge or gooey caramel.
    • Taste
      83 83
Fruity and sweet, bitter towards the end.

Peppery heat, and oaky dryness. Slim tonic, zesty orange peel, bitter orange.
    • Finish
      82 82
A tad short for the age and after this 'masculine' character. Whiff of dry smoke. Malty.

Great value. Balanced whisky with a nose where the wood immediately shines through. Out of the bottle the nose was rather precious, but from the glass it is a tad alcoholic at times. The mild or balanced peat is exactly that and complements the creamy body wonderfully. The finish is a little dry due to the woodiness (slightly tangy) but nothing extreme. A drop of water exposes the wood some more and smooths it out. That's when it becomes dangerously easy to enjoy.

1451) Dalwhinnie, 2002/2017, 15YO, Double Matured, The Distillers Edition, D.SY.313

N- Uplift sweet fruits and honey that brought smile to your face, then a drift of unoffensive sweaty wood with gratinated cheesy nuances transits to tropical fruit bubblegum, naturally sweet and at the same time plenty of cereal porridge, creamy malty and almonds. Lasting for a 43% with zest and spices. (88/22)

P- Strong black tea, mashes of orange peels settles well on both side of the palate with gentle bitterness like an Old Fashioned, trust some good portions of well aged liquid in the vat, also the double matured trick works seamlessly well with layer of soft dark fruits and coffee. Not with a lot of flair but like the soothing style. (87/21)

F-Medium, tasty, coffee, marmalade with tinge of peppers. (86/20)

B/B- 87/21 Not knowing what to expect from this DE initially, turn out to be another good yearly released from Diageo for 2017 series, alongside the Oban DE.
