Johnnie Walker Red Label, actually that doesn't really knock me off my feet ... but, this Johnnie Walker was bottled back in 1970 and convinces with its old school style all along the line. Sweet, smoky, fruity and with an extreme (literally) chocolate side. A great blend from the good old days ...

    • Nose
Creamy caramel shimmers in the Premium Snifter, while on the glass wall oily "legs" draw their viscous paths, roasted aromas and dark fruits rise from the glass. Hazelnuts and a subtle smoky note dissolve from creamy roasted aromas, hints of citrus fruits exude their tart aroma, milk chocolate and apricots are added. Minimal abrasion of orange peel, toffee and malt, in the background there is a muted note of mint with a hint of grapefruit.
    • Taste
Hazelnuts and spicy wood tones stick to the palate after the first sip, minimal sharpness tickles the tongue, hints of smoke follow and end in abrasion of orange peel. Apricots and toffee, cinnamon and sugar, cocoa powder dusts on the tongue, milk chocolate melts on the tongue, subtle smoky notes and dark wood tones come into their own.
    • Finish
Mild with lots of chocolate and cocoa, the aftertaste starts off sweet and creamy. The sharpness of wood tickles the tip of the tongue to a minimum, and there is also a slight smoky note in the aftertaste. With hazelnuts and hints of tart grapefruit, the aftertaste fades slowly, creamy chocolate and cocoa stick on the tongue, nuances of smoke and mint stay in your memory for a long time.

This is quite sweet, also quite thick & chewy this saved sample is a from a bottle a few years older but the same nonetheless.
The nose is on the light side but the palate more than makes up for it.
I love it , a bog standard blend and worthy of 87-88 points.
