Whisky Reviews for Springbank 15-year-old

18 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.28 points

  1. KayMeertens scored this whisky 87 points Specialist

Much less sherried than the new 10YO, but therefore also more natural in style. Despite the new label there's not a large difference from last year's release.
    • Nose
A light dose of eggy sulphur upfront. Fatty papaya-like fruitiness. Peat and a little dough.
    • Taste
Peach, pepper, peat, nutmeg and minerals.
    • Finish
      Peat, vanilla and peach.

Sea notes, delicate peat, freshness. Smoked meat. Sweet fruits. Raisins. Muesli. Unsweetened popcorn. Rice flakes. A little lacquer notes. Kislinka lemon. Sweet pastries. Mineral notes. Corn. Toward the end of the dram, sulphurous motifs dominate. Complex, constantly changing. 22
    • Taste
      85 85
The middle-aged man. Moderately sweet. Black pepper, other spices, mineral notes, custard, match heads. 21
    • Finish
      88 88
Long, warming. There are smoke, salty caramel, sulphurous motifs. 22
Interesting whisky, which is nice to study. Balance sheet - 22.
      Total 87.

    Color: amber
Aroma: wine, chemical, crude rubber, hydrosulphuric (dominant), damp earth, dried pear, grapefruit peel
Taste: sharp, sulfurous, smoky (ash), pepper, raw rubber, wet wood, nutmeg, dried fruits, peaches.
    Aftertaste: long, sulfuric, smoky
Balance: hydrogen sulfide dominates, but a drop of water significantly improved the situation, all sorts of fruit notes were added.

  10. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

This is definitely an upgrade when compared to the 10yo. It's more delicate and more complete. This batch is having a little more peat than i think is perfect for a Springbank i guess this is actually normal for this distillery. Lately i compared 2 different batches of Springbank 10yo. One had a very strong peat influence, it took over the spirit, where the the other one had a way more subtle peat influence somewhere in the back.
    • Nose
Immediately that typical Springbank nose! Sweet, woody and a delicate balance between bourbon and sherry wood. Sugared bread. Vanilla, smooth spices. There's quite a lot of peat in this batch on the first nose.
    • Taste
Wow this is soft!! It is incredibly silky and a little fat. Butterscotch, vanilla and honey and peach. A slight hint of wood at the end. Also there is peat. But it's a lot less then what you would expect from the first nose. On the taste it is delicate and it is not covering the whole pallet.
    • Finish
Slightly dry with a short bitter note. Wood and peach. Where the taste is not that peated as you would expect, the finish is as peated as you would expect.
