With some malts, the attribute is appetizing. Here also. Solid, consistent, straightforward. A great companion. Well done Speyburn!
    • Nose
      Color: light gold
Nose: One of those malts where you want to smell "to the ground". At "first glance" an unimportant Speyside standard, if you give it time and listen, a lovely juicy play of aromas from barley, malt, caramel, vanilla, pear, canned peaches and malic acid - I could now say 100% Speyburn, but I leave that to the professionals here. Sniff! Nothing big - just beautiful.
    • Taste
Fits! The mixture of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon works, very pleasant as the spice of the Spanish oak gives the malts sufficient depth, blindly that could be a sweet wine finish a la Sauternes or Marsala. Well cute. :) This punch with the spice and pepperiness to the point is great.
    • Finish
sufficient - if it is too short for you, you can lengthen it with one sip

82.5? Never... here, too, there is a really good round whisky, similar to the 18-year-old, with a super PLV.

    RATING: 85pts – |83 – 86 (B) → Good| — Not a “must”, but a nice-to-have.
    • Nose
      86 86
The nose has an influence of both casks with notes of burnt sugar, raisins, toffee, cinnamon and chocolate.
    • Taste
      85 85
The taste is spicy and intense with a profile of nice sherriness and notes of chocolate, figs, peppery wood and caramel.
    • Finish
      85 85
The finish is medium lenght, spicy and neat with hints of chocolate, raisins, citrus fruits and apple jam.

Wow effect, toffee, sweet citruses, milk chocolate with nuts, apples in alcohol. Concentrated, sweet, peppery. Very nice, eyes roll

  5. Totoro scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

Good-quality nose but no big hit on the palate. A bit peppery and pedestrian.
    • Nose
      86 86
Initially unsweetened, dark cocoa powder and something dry and dusty. Then a sweet-and-sour fruitiness appears: kiwi and pineapple. Buttermilk and bananas. Malty, with porridge and cookie dough. Displays a real roasted, slightly bitter aspect as well - coffee grounds? After the first sip, oodles of golden syrup join in. All in all, a pleasant and multifaceted nose that allows for some permutation. Perhaps a bit boring, but apparently the result of careful and thoughtful blending.
    • Taste
      81 81
Without water, at first all I get is a sourness and a sharpness (that being said, it's the first dram of the day, so the latter might be my fault entirely). Gets sweeter and more approachable with water. Now there's marshmellows, custard, syrup, banana bread. Goes from sour to sweet to bitter at the death with no surprises, and basically repeats the aromas from the nose.
    • Finish
      81 81
Pepper, ginger, lemon and apple juice, some soft coffee notes. No huge staying power but also nothing that disturbs.

Pretty volatile. Fresh fruit. Lots of caramel and honey later. Red fruit. A pinch of spices.
    • Taste

Red fruit. Slightly tannic and astringent. Lots of spices. Black pepper. Feel the influence of sherry casks.

Lots of caramel. Spices. Black pepper. Slightly astringent. Medium-short.

(Disclaimer: is my first whisky on the day for tasting - I have to test it again)
    light fruits on the nose, but does not look like a 15-year-old, more like a boisterous 8-year-old;
which is not bad as such, but you expect even more sedate aromas at 15 years of age.
Nothing new in the taste, fruit, malt, slight bitterness. Then it's gone very quickly,
    [77 - 75 = above average -> goes like this]
    • Nose
      78 78
      fresh light fruits, apricots, (still unripe) pears, citrus-sour nuances that are reminiscent of lychee;
grassy aroma, vanilla and a little honey.
Light spice far in the background.
Over time, the icing sugar sweetness decreases somewhat, but a beer-yeast-malt aroma comes through quite strongly; I personally find it somehow out of place for a 15.
    • Taste
      77 77
very soft start, very light spice, light fruits. Peppery spice presses on the tongue, it becomes slightly tart at the back, but is more of a malt-tart note than dark chocolate moments.
      Becoming / staying malty.
Second sip: sweeter, fruity, a little more vanilla, still very soft, slightly viscous / creamy. It then loses from 2/3 in the mouth and the fruits no longer harmonize so well.
Overall quite spicy on the palate ...
Third sip: sweet, spicy, vanilla, fruit, malt note; with imagination also toffee / caramel.
    • Finish
      75 75
some spice, slightly tart notes, malty, fruit aromas fade away.
The alcohol is still burning down the throat.

Definitely better than 10yo, "darker" and more demanding. Not memorable but good
    • Nose
Fuller and more rounded than 10yo, scent of sherry, ripe berries, light citrus note, coconut? A touch of wood, trifle
    • Taste
Light body (less than 10yo), sweet without exaggerating, dark fruit, creamy cake, bitter almond note
    • Finish
      Long enough, sweet, brown sugar

N: Much like the 10yo but with more roundness, less candy fruits and more malty & citrus depth. The nose is rather fine.
T: This is far better than the 10yo, having shaken off those fermented & floury issues. Stays malty with varied fruity action and a far better body by comparison.
F: It’s still a bit ‘funny’ [almost butyric & resinous], but there are improvements over the 10yo in all departments.
C: Scores a few marks more than its younger sibling, much of that down the nose alone.

A very tasty Speyburn, with the proper kick seasoning. Nice thing!
    • Nose
Some glue to the beginning. Full, syrupy nose with honey. The typical malt and vanilla game for me. Very juicy pear and peach push forward. Light wood tones. Some licorice. I find that more often in Speyburn. With some time in the glass, the fruit goes back a step and a floral note pushes forward. Followed by a sourish fruit. Reminds me a lot of Ringlomarmelade. The alcohol is almost unnoticeable.
    • Taste
Something spicy honey kick. The seasoning gets a little sharper. Softens but immediately the juicy, sweet pear and mirabelle and apricots. Vanilla, malt and a good portion of caramel. At the second sip, the sour becomes slightly stronger. In the form of grapes.
    • Finish
Short to medium. Only spicy then getting fuller and creamy sweet.

Pleasant Speyburn, not a sherry bomb, but quite complex with an affordable price.
    • Nose
Sherry. Spicy oak. Honey, dried fruits, citruses and green apple.
    • Taste
Oily. Ginger orange marmalede. Pepper and chilli. Cocoa.
    • Finish
      Medium length, spicy and fruity.

This is a good drinkable Speysider. The three current bottlings in direct comparison: https://fosm.de/facebook-tasting-speyburnlive/
    • Nose
Still a little spicier, but also significantly more sherry influence. The dried fruits are making their way. Still rather discreet and certainly not a "sherry bomb". Since I have the three in direct comparison, I also find green apple, lemon and the acacia honey here. A little more alcoholic on the nose. Dried raisins. He needs some time to develop.
    • Taste
Orange marmalade, vanilla and chocolate with a little ginger flavored. A nice combination that is not too sweet, but rather a little spicy. The 46% is noticeable on the tongue with white pepper note. A slightly oily mouthfeel occurs.
    • Finish
In the finish I have a little leather, more spice but also the dried fruits come before the slightly dry mouthfeel.
