  1. KayMeertens scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    Not as treacly sherry as the previous batch that I have, #56. This one has a lot of traits that I associate with relatively new American oak.
    • Nose
      Caramel, cherry, hazelnut, raspberry and vanilla. Water adds orange and releases a virgin oak note.
    • Taste
      Cherry, caramel, white pepper and vanilla.
    • Finish
      Caramel, cherry, orange and raspberry.

    a very nice sherry influence in this whisky
    on the nose first christmas cake, cherries and woodspice later some caramel.
    on the pallet very hot and spicy. a drop of water makes it a lot more soft and sweet.
    on the finish sweet and oaky.
    very nice but for me a lot better with some water.

  4. Vince scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    Familiar A'bunadh nose, sherry coupled with strong alcohol burn. After some time in the glass and with quite a few drops of water (neat I found it too hot), it reveals a well balanced dram. Dark fruits, Christmas cake, leather, and quite a bit of active, spicy wood on the finish--but not overly bitter.

    COLOUR: dark amber, copper (without dye)

    - a very intense sherry whisky
    - the high filling strength leaves a lot of scope for
    Dilute and experiment
    - with originally about 60 € fully ok
    • Nose
      strong mixture of sherry aroma and a lot of oak (not as sweet as batch 22 and 49, rather a bit drier), very intense, charged impression; with water: not quite as powerful / piercing, much more pleasant
    • Taste
      Despite the addition of water, the attack is still very powerful and voluminous, in addition to the strong sherry aroma, lots of oak and strong spiciness (here the oak/spice almost predominates over the sherry
    • Finish
      medium length fruity finish ;
      long fruity-dry aftertaste

    Very fruity dram, and very balanced. Nose, body and finish are very nice in line with eachother. Red fruits galore, some chocolate and vegetal notes. Very full and pleasant.
    The alcohol is present, but not overwhelming.
    • Nose
      Very fruity, berries, raspberries, strawberry. Pretty some alcohol. Floral, some leather. Later on more sour notes. Some autumn forest as well.
    • Taste
      Very fruity, quite powerful. Red fruits, berries, cherries, some hints of coffee and chocolate. Warming. Some leather.
    • Finish
      More smooth now, but still some power. Red fruits, raisins, berries. A touch of chocolate. Pretty long finish. Warming.

    • Nose
      90 90
      the high alcohol content is clearly noticeable, but only if you hold your nose deep in the glass. intense sherry aromas, dried fruits, chocolate, caramel, raisins, dark berries, some cherries come through.
    • Taste
      90 90
      very strong, fruity sweet, dried fruits, a lot of chocolate, leather, intense notes of sherry, slightly bitter, caramel, coffee with milk, becomes creamy at the end
    • Finish
      89 89
      Chocolate, dried fruits, notes of sherry, spicy, medium length. Sweet.

    Intense, deep, oily and very full-bodied
    w/ notes of burnt sugar, dried fruits, cherry and sweet spices.

    RATING: 86pts – |83 – 86 (B) → Good| — Not a “must”, but a nice-to-have.

    On the nose, sponge cask, dark chocolate, vanilla and toasted nuts are present. You can clearly sense the high level of ABV from just the nose. A foreshadowing to its aggressiveness.

    On the palate, extremely warm and quite hot with notes raisins, mineral and rubber (burning tires).

    The finish is medium with off-notes such as acidity(?).

  19. Myst111 scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

    Super oily, typical Aberlour Abunadh, but had better barrel numbers.
    • Nose
      90 90
      Cherry, dark chocolate, sweet wood, some caramel and sherry, dried oranges

      Need a big glass in any case, otherwise the alcohol is too dominant.
    • Taste
      84 84
      Oak, leather, a little orange with dark chocolate
    • Finish
      84 84
      Medium to long, almost like a bourbon,

    The A'bunadh are just awesome! For almost 60 € and always about 60 turns you can (not) do anything wrong. The PLV benchmark for a "sherry bomb".

    Nice sherry bomb - not cloyingly sweet, due to the high abv which balances the sweetness in a decent way. Good whisky but pretty one-dimensional.

    Again a well-done batch ...!

    [Color] copper;
    • Nose
      dark berries, raisins, dried fruits, sherry, tobacco, oak;
    • Taste
      with water: a powerful start, heavy sherry, berries, leather, spicy oak, oily, sweet honey, chocolate, mouth-filling, aromatic;
    • Finish
      long finish, lots of sherry and oak; dry off;

    My definition of a more basic A’bunadh batch. I found it very juiced up in Sherry and not offering a whole lot of complexity. Still tasty, but Batch 58 was much better.

    A really lovely cask strength sherry whisky~ It's very hard to choose between this and the Glenfarclas 105. As both heavily depends on the cask influence, sometimes i prefer Abu sometimes 105.

    Hey not to complain but its always great to have multiple selections!
    • Nose
      Dry, oak perfume, sherry bomb! Saw dust, toffee, sugar syrup, vanilla. After rest it for some time, the dark fruits and chocolate slowly coming out.
    • Taste
      Very rich, strong, oily, sweet vanilla, dark fruits burst. Is this a bourbon? In the middle, here comes the marmalade, cinnamon stick, dark chocolate, orange peel.
    • Finish
      Long with dark chocolate, mints, cloves, sweet dried raisins~ and at the very end when the bitterness slowly dissipate the oak perfume is back~~~

    A good batch.
    • Nose
      The bottle been sitting half full for a month or so, and the alc is not as obvious as it was.

      Heavy sherry (as expected) dark over ripe plums, orange chocolate, rasberries, and I think there's even a hint of sweet strawberry.
    • Taste
      Even at +60% I like to sip these A'bunadh's neat. The sweetness sort of softens the impact of the ABV, and there's not that many whiskies being bottled above 60% so I take it as a treat.

      This is a bit thicker and more oily than some of the previous recent batches I've tried.

      Lots of Oloroso notes, mixed with sweet caramel, dark chocolate covered marzipan bar and some leather notes.

      Very sweet, with surprisingly soft spicyness.
    • Finish
      Fisnish is fairly long. Sherry liqueur and more of that nice confectionary marzipan.

      Drying dark wood notes towards the end giving a barely noticable bitterness.

    Conclusion and pictures on: https://tomtrinkt.de
    • Nose
      The high alcohol content (60.9%) causes a slight stinging in the nose, which is not completely gone even after more than 20 minutes. Beautiful sherries dominate the action: plums, cherries, black currants, juicy oranges, almonds, marzipan, plenty of caramel, chocolate and delicate echoes of oak I perceive. Adding a few drops of water evaporates the slightly alcoholic note and the fruity aromas intensify noticeably. The nose now looks much rounder and more harmonious.
    • Taste
      Without water: Violent onset, the texture is pleasantly oily. The front part of the mouth is lapped by sweet sherry notes while it tingles violently on the tip of the tongue. With a few drops of water, the malt remains very intense, but is more pleasing and harmonious. The fruit notes are fresher and even sweeter, I register plenty of red fruits, oranges, chocolate, caramel, almonds, delicate hints of leather and spicy oak.
    • Finish
      Medium long, intense and sweet and spicy. Fruity sherry notes, sweet forest berries, caramel and spicy oak notes accompany the finish. A bit of dark chocolate, a hint of cinnamon, nuts and orange peel complete the balanced finish. The Aberlour leaves a subtle, but not disturbing, bitterness on the palate.
