It's always difficult to judge a legendary malt like that. Objectively it is very good but can not be stratospheric. I love the nose in general when the obe is so well integrated. But without obe, what would it give? The nose / mouth difference is very welcome and the profile is really complex. Surprising for such an old youngster.
    • Nose
A nose "brilliant" and complex. Which has character for 43%. We have a metallic touch (obe?) That jumps immediately to the nose. It adds balance and balance by lowering lemony acidity. More on the rusty side than blood. We feel an undeniable youth packed by the years in the bottle. A buttered side is also apparent immediately. He also crushed a mineral that is a discrete blow. With the opening we have a little more yellow fruits. Apricots with syrups. A ladle of camphor also comes into play. And a light, dusty wood.
    • Taste
In the mouth always a good dose of obe. It's metallic, dirty. We feel a little engine oil. We lick a piece of metal. Very oily. Discrete fruit syrup. Candied orange.
    • Finish
Camphor finish. Moderately long. A little pepper remains in the mouth and a bold leather. Minty.

Obe, metal, orchard fruits, stone fruits , orange peach, grapefruit, grass, no real wood influence, such a depth of aromas, an impressive dram

The malt that got me hooked on old Clynelish.

Beautiful whisky sampled at Gathering 2018. Pure distillate driven whisky that rewards those who take time to explore and savor.

Although smell like a new make, but has a very majestic palate with a lot of complexity.
    • Nose
New make, sweet barley and pear drop, fresh apples. There is a lot of OBE.
    • Taste
Elegant but majestic! Fresh melons, peat and high esters (tyre, engine), still very fresh.
    • Finish
Very long, sour barley and lychee, very fruity.

Momentous Dram. Huge bitter lemon peel, all the oils, teas and gorgeous savoury aperitivo vibes. Nothing quite like this. Getting so close to the phenomenal Clynelish 50's distillate. Coal and peat drying the foor malted by hand barley (golden promise). Using low yeilding brewers yeast for the fermentation and direct firing the stills all resulted in a rich and wonderful spirit made with craft and a love for the product. How we have stripped the heart out of whisky making with today's faceless corporations. We must support the new craft distilleries that are putting quality>quantity. Slainte.
