The devilish power (66.6%) of Glenlivet can not be denied: The alcohol sets immediately after pouring a first exclamation point. In my nose, a strong cooling, but far removed from an unpleasant stinging or burning. After a few minutes I pay my full attention to the malt: A tightly woven conglomerate of dark fruits, chocolate and voluminous sherry aromas rises from my glass. Juicy oranges, dried fruits (dates, figs & raisins), caramel (fudge), plenty of dark chocolate and a pronounced nuttiness reveal themselves. The more often I dry out the malt, the more complex the interesting aroma constellation becomes. Christmas spices (gingerbread), roasted chestnuts, subtle hints of tobacco and leather, as well as a harmonious oak spice join. Adding a few drops of water, the whisky wins significantly added to fruitiness.

Extremely strong! The powerful Glenlivet pushes with a tremendous, aromatic intensity. The mouthfeel is very oily, almost buttery, very voluminous and slightly astringent. Fresh ginger dances on the tip of the tongue and a noticeable dryness sets in immediately. Even if I'm "barrel-twisted" and rather purist, I'm experimenting with a bit of water for once. I add about 6-7 drops to 2cl. Dark dried fruits (again dates, figs & raisins), overripe (sweet) cherries, oranges, caramel, dark dark chocolate, toasted almonds, hints of tobacco and leather, Christmas spices and pleasant woody notes unfold and provide a beautiful, aromatic variety. By adding a few drops of water, the malt is a little more fruity and harmonious, but without losing its intensity of taste.

Long. Very warm, still powerful and intense. A fine residual sweetness briefly flashes before dark chocolate notes, dark dried fruits, spices, wood and light coffee notes gain in dominance. Finally, a slight bitterness and it is noticeably drier on the palate. The heavy sherry aromas sound very slow.
