So this version is a tough number. I realize that I can't judge how an ice wine whisky should taste. That's where the catch lies. Because actually I should say: This Batch1 was a disappointment. Was that so? I'm not sure because the Batch2 was even more notchy. Think about buying a bottle often. I should give him another chance. The sample was too small. Plan: waiting for bargains!
    • Nose
So to the nose I have to say that this way of bringing the light pears and apples mixed with sweet vanilla in this sweet grape note to the front is very special. A touch of herbal tea wrapped in sweet malt really has an aha effect. I don't know whether an ice wine finish has to be like that. Really very special. Respect. Very good balance.
    • Taste
Ok, but the wind to the storm is missing here. Or they mean a tender winter. Everything is very calm. The disappointment is also greatest now. Sweet sugar melons. Only with the second sip does the wind come up and the pepper carries the wood wort forward. For this 43% he is now doing everything right. Just nothing moving. No storm far and wide.
    • Finish
Somewhat medium to rather short. Sorry Glenfiddich, something went wrong? Where is the price? Where is the effect? OK, everything is round and ironed flat. Easy dram. Everything will be calm and dry. My impression: “Grape skins dried on oak boards”. I have to forget all of this quickly. At some point I'll get a bargain. Then I'll try again. He deserves it. Not Batch2 !!

    I would say: experiment failed.

When many here praise the nose of the bottling, then I ask myself whether everything works for me today. The acidity of a corked Riesling is not my favorite flavor now. Also some sweetness. Oh well...
Then drinkable on the palate, but completely irrelevant. Could have been a delicious NAS from the bourbon cask.
exit? He has. Very short. At least without misses.
Seriously, you can drink it. By the way. But the price is such a cheek that I would like to give it 10 points.
Blind I would give 78-82-70. Estimated for 30-40€. But with the price tag of €200, I have to deduct 10 points for the PLV. isso. Ridiculous.

Well, always the same with the different batches .... in the end, the first one is usually the best.
    so here too.
In the Experimental Series so far this is my favorite, but he still sings along, in the choir of the Glenfiddichs, which are way too soft and filled with too little percentage.
Incidentally, I also count the Grand Cru in there.

Imagine drinking freshly squeezed honeydew while eating a overglazed vanilla danish. It’s sweet. Mission accomplished. Oak for balance doesn’t cut it. Lacking depth for 21yrs old.

Extremely sweet nose, and yes, I love it!...in this case. White grape, huge ice wine influence. A very slight, light cognac note, cereal notes, lots of honey. Toffee, fudge. Warm and thick smell, muggy, juicy fruitiness. Lychee.

Very creamy, sweet development, subtle oakiness, cognac qualities even on the palate

[September, 2018] After a short visit at Glenfiddich distillery to check the progress they made with their new still house (that is almost completed) I try one of their latest experiments: an icewine finish named "Winter Storm" (just a sample as I am cautious because of its high price)…

...and that caution was well exercised! This dram offers a fine nose but falls apart in both taste and finish completely. A true disappointment on the palate and way too excessive priced for a "nosing only" whisky. Not recommended unless you do not drink alcohol anyhow...
    • Nose
      90 90
The nose is a little punchy first but this vanishes quickly. After that it offers a subtle and delicate profile of winey, fruity and honeyed flavours with shy spices. All very balanced and great to sniff, actually I could nose this dram for hours...
    • Taste
      85 85
The taste is neither layered nor impressive, I would call this dull and flat with just hints of the wonderful aromas of the nose. This really is disappointing. Water is not needed (how could reduction improve a flat dram?). Maybe this dram fell victim to oxydation in an almost empty bottle (I had this one at a bar) but I can judge it just the way it is, finally...
    • Finish
      83 83
The initial mouthfeel is a little warming but not coating at all with no distracting moments either. Actually there is not much of a mouthfeel at all. The finish is very short and adds no new impressions except a minor drying end (papers). This dram is almost non-existent on the palate - how come they named it "Winter Storm" (could be a Monty Python joke)...

  13. Bosi scored this whisky 69 points Specialist

I was so looking forward to this whisky, but after the great nose he completely disappoints me. Especially the bitterness in the taste and finish is for me a clear false note.

    Experiment failed.
    • Nose
The aroma starts with light grapes and white wine notes followed by gooseberry cake, figs, honey and shortbread. The alcohol is fantastically involved.
    • Taste
The mouthfeel is very oily, almost syrupy. Unfortunately the whisky is quite bitter on arrival with orange zest, dark chocolate, peach and oak spice.
    • Finish
The bitterness also remains in the finish, which surprisingly long for this alcohol strength fails. Now not many flavors are added.

he is challenging, yes, nothing impetuous, but it lacks the special kick what has given the ice wine to the whisky
    • Nose
light fruit, white wine (because I know), slightly tart, sweet, some vanilla, later light and soft caramel
    • Taste
light and silky on the palate Pear, peach, some caramel, sweetness, oak, later nice and spicy
    • Finish
Oak, liquid Maggiwürze, oak, some caramel

A truly successful experiment! The Canadian ice wine harmonizes perfectly with the distillery character of the whisky. While the wine aromas are very present - but not too dominant - on the nose, the palate is rather restrained, with more sweetness and oak spices taking precedence. The finish shows good length with a pleasant wood dryness. A great dram with a gorgeous nose. The long wait for the Winter Storm was more than worth it. I'm definitely gonna get a bottle of this.

I thank Campari Deutschland GmbH for the sample!

    • Nose
Beautiful presence of the sweet ice wine flavours on the nose. Very fruity and vinous with apricots, yellow ripe pears, apples and light, sweet grapes. Vanilla pudding with sweet malty notes and a hint of Turkish delight, followed by tender herbal lemonade, oak spice and a whiff of cinnamon in the background. An enticing and extremely pleasant aroma - a real nose flatterer!
    • Taste
Less vinous and fruity as the nose suggests. Sweet vanilla, toffee and pears are present, accompanied by herbal notes, apple peel and grape skin. This is followed by a pleasantly warming mix of oak spice, subtle cinnamon and white pepper. Tastes much stronger than the 43% abv suggest. With the second sip, the vinous flavours also come through noticeably as the whisky becomes spicier overall.
    • Finish
The finish is medium long, creamy sweet with vanilla and some more wine flavours. Becomes dry on the tail with spiced oak, tannins and a hint of black pepper. With water: Fresher and even more fruit on the nose when a few drops of water are added. The spiciness in the back is almost completely tamed. Still sweet and slightly fruity on the palate but less warming spices overall. The finish is quite short with dry notes of oak, tannins and grape peel.

  19. wisekyofcourse scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

On the nose, sweet fruit, fine spices, some grapes, and exotic fruits.
On the palate, grapes still, a vine side, sensation of vat, cinnamon, caramel a little burnt, and dry wood, with dry herbs too, then fruity more green with apple, then vanilla .
In the final, simple but tenacious average on the same perfumes!
A dram a little oriented with an icy grape, with more depth level mouth and final!
