Very good whisky, it takes some time before some smoke enters. A lot of sherrycask fruitiness, very pleasant. The nose is even a bit better than the taste.

Very fruity, red fruits, initially hardly any peat. Prunes, raisins. Later on more smoke comes in, roasted meat. pretty some alcohol. Earthy notes.

Pretty powerful, pickering, intense. Pepper. Red fruits, prunes, chocolate, only a little whiff of smoke.

Still pretty some power, more bitter smoke now, some prunes, red fruits. Pretty long finish.

Reminds of old style laph. much sherry influence, smoke, soot and peat, some char offcourse, dark chocolade, prunes, some fruity notes, camphor? whow what a dram.
Thank you Benny for this wonderful sample.

Soot, Sherry, peat, Laph... All in great harmony.

I'm not sure it's possible to do much better with 1990s or later Laphroaig. This is just about the perfect sherry cask.
    • Nose
After just nosing a bit boring Laphroaig Cask Strength batch #010 with its overpowering young oak and vanilla, this deep, rich sherry oak note is a such a breath of fresh air. A wisp of boiled eggs, but no gunpowder, cloves or other sulfury notes. Rather, we get chocolate and age-softened tannins, with woodsmoke and char. Overripe oranges. With water the oranges come out even more, and the sherry just intensifies.
    • Taste
Bold, full and rich body. Lots of soot and wood char, and then chocolates and dates. Tannins and peat dig into my tongue and gums, but although there's a lot of both, it doesn't feel harsh at all. Water helps it become sweeter and slightly herbal, and amplifies the chocolate notes. I love it.
    • Finish
Drying, sooty, and tannic, but with a streak of caramel balancing it. Long, both neat and with water.

Lots of soy sauce with this one. A very, very good sherry cask Talisker... uh... Laphroaig.

Wow, what a great young Laphroaig! I love it because of the perfect combination of sherry and peat.
    • Nose
Aromatic and peaty. Medicinal with camphor and salt in the background plus oak and wood charcoal. Dark venison gravy with cranberries - very tasty!
    • Taste
Rich and bold with gravy again. Like beef roasted on a peat fire. Smoked tea, sherry and mild pepper.
    • Finish
Long with the sherry and peat lingering on. Very pleasant.
