Whisky Reviews for The Deveron 12-year-old

7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 77.69 points

  1. Rosebank88 scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Starts on the one hand fruity with waxy cider apples, on the other hand also oily and slightly earthy. Above all this hovers a delicate saltiness. Over time, nettles, pencil shavings, burnt nutshells, and herbaceous herbs follow. Very interesting aroma profile.
    • Taste
Surprisingly complex and very tough start. Oak, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, gentian, pencil shavings and again salt, which leads into an almost phenolic delicate smoky note. Later Brazil nuts, old fruit crates, covered herbal tea but also dried apples and Hutzelbirnen follow. Altogether very old-fashioned and individual.
    • Finish
Surprisingly long and aromatic herb. Herbs, nuts, earth and delicate metallic reflexes.

A full serving of apple for the vitamin junkies.
    • Nose
Red and green apples, followed by forest honey.
    • Taste
Fruity and sweet in the mouth, but also a little oily and woody (tannins).
    • Finish
The finish is short and sharp.

Nice overall for an everyday no thinking dram. You won't wake up at night thinking about it, but it's good value. Too bad it's not bottled at 46% abv.
    • Nose
      80 80
Fruity (lemon, pineapple), some flowers, little sweetness, not hugely complex but good anyway.
    • Taste
      77 77
Light texture, a bit watery. Touch of spices, some fruits (apple, hints of citrus and pear), quite delicate, then a hint of bitterness. Texture would probably have been better with a higher abv.
    • Finish
      71 71
Medium short, on fruits, stays on the tongue, nothing on the throat.

This delicious whisky comes from the Speyside in Scotland and is made in the fishing village of Mac Duff. You taste sweet, fruit and wood.
