Nice, balanced dram, nice woodsmoke and some sweet and fruity notes. Pleasant.
    • Nose
      86 86
Quite some power, nice peat and smoke, sweet and fruity.
    • Taste
      87 87
Quite some power, pepper, some bitter smoke. Sal ammoniac and licorice with some sour edge underneath. Some sweet caramel and chocolate.
    • Finish
      87 87
More smooth now, some sweet and bitter smoke, licorice, woodsmoke, ashy. Medium long finish. Some fruity touch as well.

  2. Beatroute Malt scored this whisky 86 points Expert Junior

Classic Laphroaig: Peat and smoky, leather, sharp, do not get much sherry on the nose nor the palate. Medium length finish.

I smell a peat bomb with lots of smoke and ashes. Some bacon too (I LOVE BACON ????). And then there are the medicinal notes: definitely an aid-kit, full of all the life-saving supplies you might need. Including iodine. Also a sea-salty coastal note. Next we move on to the F1 GP. Because I clearly smell burned rubber. Last but not least: let's not forget that there are also some sweet notes in there. Red fruit and a light touch of honey.
    • Taste
      86 86
Again the huge peatsmoke. Not to be missed. Sea-salt crackers and peppers. Complemented by the medicinal notes again. Plasters and iodine. At the end it turns a bit fruity with red apples.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long! With notes of burned wood. Honey and a soft medicinal touch. After some minutes you can still taste grass.

    • Nose
Mineral is the word, even more so than peaty. Maybe even dusty. Orange and straw. With water there's bread and curry.
    • Taste
Peppery, peaty and mineral. Straw, orange and curry.
    • Finish
      Peat, orange, curry and apple.

Sweet herbal medicinal maritime, not an oustanding dram but as an everyday sip fits the bill.

Young and impetuous. Spicy alcohol and massive smoke characterize this bottling. Not my taste.

    - blind tasting -
    • Nose
      80 80
Pungent alcohol, strong smoke, medically, cigar, some citrus, sugar beet syrup, cooked sugar beet, a bit earthy.
    • Taste
      79 79
Hot, sweet and very smoky, ashes, cigarette, dusty / ashen in the mouth.
    • Finish
      80 80
Too long remain the massive ashy notes in the mouth and unfortunately cover almost all other flavors.

Laphroaigeypical nose, some citrus, cold smoke, caramel, a few orange peel. Nothing that totally flashed me now.
    • Taste

Very cool! Cold campfire smoke the finest! Very pleasant through the nose. Again burnt caramel, a bit of gum, cinnamon. Just what you expect from a young Laphi!
    • Finish

Good, long finish. Stable, smoky and salty, quite uncomplex.

I'm not an heavy peat fan, but this young buddy it is really balanced considering strength and age. clap clap clap.

And at the nose at certain point i found jasmine!

I know some people said this one lacked a bit of depth, and I can kind of understand them as it kind of just repeats the same flavours throughout the process of tasting, but they are flavours I really really like. I’m a huge fan of young Laphroaigs because of these and enjoyed this one immensely, especially with the sherry influence on it. It’s harder and harder to find reasonably priced independent Laphroaigs so this made me really happy.
    • Nose
Tar. Prunes. Rubber. Oil smoke. Brine. Lots of iodine and germoline. Sweet glazed meats. Beetroot. Behind all the smoke and medicinal notes there’s a very nice fruity presence, apricot jam, black cherries and a little amaretto.
    • Taste
Ash. Coal dust. Wood smoke. Tar. Grape jam. Treacle. Old motor oil. More germoline.
    • Finish
Long. Soot. Grape jam. Iodine. Fresh tar and sticky red fruits. Trailing whips of sea salt and caramel.

    Enthusiasm: Nose 3/5 Mouth and Finale 4/5 Whisky n ° 1693
    • Nose
Sweet, on smoked bacon, it is slightly medicinal.
    • Taste
Bright, fruity, peaty, with hints of rubber.
    • Finish
At once a bit bitter and tangy!

    Lovely young Laphroaig.
    • Nose
      Medicinal. Very smoky. Seasalt, seaweed.
    • Taste
Very sea salty again. Beachwalk, medicinal. Hospital air? Less smoky.
    • Finish
Very long for me. Smoky  and salty.

You taste that this Laphroaig is very young, yet it is tasty, the alcohol percentage makes up for it!
    • Nose
      Smoky, sea salt, medicinal

    Beautiful young smoker.
    • Nose
Subtle fruit, strong smoke. Cool. Seawater, seaweed, salt. Salt liquorice, salmiac pastilles.
    • Taste
Very fierce peat smoke displaces everything else in the flavors. Then comes a decent pinch of pepper and spicy paprika, a splash of lemon juice and a little vanilla. Machine oil, tar, seaweed.
    • Finish
Medium and dry, cold smoke, salt, sea water, a little lemon.

    Definitely for peat lovers
    • Nose
Subtle peat and smoke, iodine, meaty, pork sausages, hints of toffee, whiffs of solvent
    • Taste
Strongly peated, much more than smoky, difficult to taste anything else
    • Finish
Long and bitter peated, fake cigars made of banana leaves

  25. Ivynor scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Rather convincing for age. Young but well done. 3-4 years of aging would have done a lot of good! The nose is a little below but the mouth is very greedy.
    • Nose
An alloy between young citrus and ashen peat, a little medicinal, cough syrup, and sherry (caramel, fresh plum), much further back. Slightly alcoholic, a little woody. Iodized notes.
    • Taste
Texture rather pleasant, oily, very marked by ash, medicinal plants, peat and iodine. The sherry is more discreet but brings a certain roundness, with sweet notes, always a little caramel and plum, chocolate tip and citrus.
    • Finish
Longish finish, very ashen and peaty, slightly spicy.

    Great young smoker!
If you like that, this is the place for you

    82 points from me
    • Nose
Lemon, lime over campfire with medicinal character.
Smells of neat power, as you know it from the CS ago.
    • Taste
      Oh yeah!
Tidy strength, thick heavy phenolic smoke, short hints of sea salt and immediately followed by a slight sweetness.
    • Finish
Medium long finish, with strong black soot clouds. Not the bean bitter ...

  27. Achany scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

young and fruity Laphroaig. the iodine, the salt, seaweed, peat, smoke, all there and nicely balanced. sweet fruits, some dried dark fruit as well, hints of sherry come through but only very gentle. The ABV is well balanced, this one does need no water, although some drops do no harm. Fine dram, glad I got me a bottle of this one!

  28. St. Pauli scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

What to expect from this whisky? For 100K bottles on the market, you'd expect a blockbuster. Maybe in the form of a real excuisite and old gem, but the Whiskybase crew chose a different path. They chose this young whisky. Young can be tricky, but Islay whiskies with a heavily peaty character are the ones that can be very tasty when young.

After the tasting, I have to say that this is a great dram. It is not as wood-dominated as other young whiskies that are "made" mature very quickly and that have an obvious wood taste. This is much more in balance, with the spirit being able to flourish too. The big bold peaty character is helping in this sense. All in alll, this is a very good whisky.
    • Nose
The nose is dominated by a combinated smell of earthy and salty peat (smoke). There is brine and a hint of antiseptic, ansjovies, but also licorice and putty. Then, a nice portion of almonds show. After that, the fruit is presented by fresh lemon, orange marmelade and apricot. Vaguely, there is also a hint of grass. All in all, a nice nose without obvious traces of immaturity. After a while, some active wood shines through, which is not surprising but too bad in my opinion.
    • Taste
Bam! This is a full-bodied, peaty monster. It has a bit of roundness, but the tingling feeling on the tongue and cheeks reveal that it also has some tannins. Fat peat smoke, bbq'ed shrimps, medium sweet licorice, a bit of wood shavings are part of the initial feeling on the palate. Later, lime juice, leather and dried fruit become more obvious. Almond, and crushed black pepper lead towards the finale.
    • Finish
The finish is long and intense, with a spicy finale. It brings together the a never ending taste of peat, grilled seafood, licorice and almonds. The lime juice is maybe less prominent, the more is the taste of dried fruit. At the end, ash and pepper linger. Also here, active wood is present. It doesn't disburb the balance though.
