The beating heart of Campbeltown.
Running the old fashioned way, employing many people, doing everything (from malting to filling bottles) themselves, lots of up and downs in the process which is everything but optimised.
It's like a living museum.
If you add Cadenhead's property to the picture: warehouse are at the same place... what you get is a beautiful story, that I hope, will never come to an end.
Not only they are doing the best, but they are doing it in an exemplary way, where human has its place and everything is not just production and business.
This place is more than a distillery, it gives faith in humanity.
Wee Toon Walking & Warehouse tour.
Very extended and detailed tour concluded with a fantastic warehouse tasting (6 superb drams straight from the cask) and a lunch at the Cadenhead shop.
05/2019 Whisky Trip - Glengoyne, Springbank, Glengyle, Glen Scotia, Arran and Auchentoshan.
Wee Toon Walking & Warehouse Tour.
probably the best distillery in Scotland - to visit and for the whisky itself. If you take the time to visit Islay its not far to make a detour to Campbeltown and these guys more than hold their own against any Islay or the big boys on Speyside. Springbank doesnt have the pretty white washed warehouse walls on the shore or the pristine pagoda roofs against a backdrop of green hills but it has bags of old world character - everything inside is from a bygone era and still used to its full potential. malt floors - check, working kiln - check, open top iron mash tun - check. wooden washbacks, direct fired stills, worm tub condensers, dunnage warehouses and a bottling plant check, check, check, check- its the real deal. There is no on site, polished, "visitor centre" selling Springbank tea cosies but The Cadenhead Whisky Shop fills that void nicely. A must if interested in seeing a true warts and all distillery..
