Dirk is right, visiting Kavalan has nothing to do with visiting distilleries in Scotland or Ireland. The venue is modern and huge (more like a park actually). The mega-restaurant serves very good (Chinese) food and coffee of Mr. Brown (owned by King Car company as well) with repeating modern jazz music in the background. Self-guided tours at any given time are available watching the continuous and pot stills behind glass. Once a day (11.00 AM) a English guided tour is available. In the distillery shop you are able to buy all kinds of different expressions, including distillery reserves on rum, madeira and peaty casks. Most of them you are able to buy in the exclusive Kavalan shops in the main cities of Taiwan as well. A nice experience though.

Good free and (self-)guided tours available in which you can see and read everything about Kavalan. In the distillery shop they offer a very wide range of bottlings at very competitive prices. You can also opt for a personal Kavalan blending session resulting in your own 300ml Personal Blend (cost 1500 NTD).

Based on the score you might think this was awesome but after many visits to Scotland this was a bit of weird experience.

Let's say the amount of information was very good, everything in Chinese and English and very well explained. No tour guide but you can read everything yourself and look at the different stages of production.

The location outside is very nice, inside you looked at the different stages of production from behind glass.

The visitors centre is big, almost bigger then the distillation location. A nice shop with every Kavalan available in samples or full bottles. Everything felt a bit optimised towards many visitors and while walking around they handled a lot of visitors. I think comparable to several of the bigger brands in Scotland. It was nice to be able to visit the place though. Just keep in mind that you tell the taxi to stay put and wait for you... Otherwise the travel back can be a bit long.
