The origin of my whisky journey was foreshadowed by my curiosity with beverages such as beer, wine and coffee. Growing up I could not understand why adults loved to consume these horrid tasting drinks. Of course as I aged, my intrigue and persistence in trying these liquids continued with more vigor.

At some point, together with my cousins and a few friends, we began to explore whisky. Fueled by a new world of possibility we dipped into the massive market of malted barley grains, yeast, water and 3+ years of aging in an oak cask. I still remember the night of my first tasting event. It was that night that I began to appreciate the differences between whiskies, to explore the nuances of flavors, sensations, and smells.

A later trip to Cadenhead's on the east side of the Royal Mile sealed the deal. I was lucky to sample a few great drams, but a cask strength 11-year-old Miltonduff peaked my interest with it's yogurty flavors and incredible mouth sensation that seemed to never end. I brought some home to the states and have been chasing the ultimate malt moment ever since.

With this hobby it is unlikely that I will ever find the "bottom of the cask". Or maybe it's better said: I won't be missing out on the journey in pursuit of the destination. And if you're reading this as a fellow whisky enthusiast, I'll wager you feel the same. Slàinte Mhath!
