About HKWhiskyExplorer:

A late starter in the whisky discovery journey (the late 2010s), frustrating to see the water of life increasingly become collectables rather than something to taste and enjoy. Great whiskies are meant to be emptied.

Slowly building up my tasting experience by putting both cheap & expensive drams under my belt and am fully devoted to searching for the best PLV whiskies.

Rating Matrix (Work-In-Progress: Max 100)

Sensation (Max 10)

Extremely subjective score guided by intuition and my mood at the moment. Also the complexity, balance, and price of the dram.

Nose (Max 30), Palate (Max 30), Finish (Max 30)

TLDR

<65     No thank you.

65-71 Try my best to avoid it unless it's a social call.

71-77 Worth a try.

78-82 I'll gladly welcome another dram.

83-85 I'll get a bottle unless my bank account says otherwise.

86-89 YES!!! One to be tasted and remembered for years. I'll buy a bottle whenever possible.

>90 Anything above 90 is perfection. I'll dream of it day and night. Probably can't afford a bottle tho.

Ruadh Maor - For the members of Whiskybase

Selected a few months ago because we think it will appeal to a group of whisky drinkers. If you are looking for a nice drinking whisky: Ruadh Maor from Berry Bro's & Rudd for the Members of Whiskybase. A peated Glenturret matured in a sherry butt, not your average lemonade and a pleasant surprise. Limited to 120 bottles, we are not sure where the rest of the contents went. This bottle is now available in our shop.
