Legends of Whisky
A unique whisky tasting led by the three 'living monuments' in the whisky world: Jim McEwan, Richard Paterson, and David Stewart. Together they represent over 155 years of experience in whisky making!
Started as a apprentice cooper at Bowmore in 1963 and would build up an unprecedented career in the whisky world, where he not only went through all the steps of the production process, but also became a solid value in the management and promotion of whisky. In 2001 he became production manager for the rebuilt Bruichladdich distillery, where he stayed until his retirement. He received many awards during his career for his work. Jim is still a much-requested consultant for new starting whisky companies. He is a fascinating narrator who knows how to link humour to science.
'The Nose!'. Descendent from the third generation of blenders with an exceptional gift for scents and aromas. Is now Master blender for Whyte & Mackay and responsible for Jura, Dalmore, Tamnavulin and Fettercairn. He is always looking for new and old barrels in which he can find perfect aromas and with which he can create new expressions. A seasoned connoisseur of Scottish and world whiskies, who knows how to translate every impression into colourful words. An inexhaustible source of whisky information. He is a serious scientist and an unexpected showman. He is a well respected judge at the IWSC (International Whisky &Spirits Competition) and ISC (International Spirits Challenge)
Worked for over 55 years as Malt Master and Blender for William Grant & Sons. For The Balvenie and Glenfiddich he was responsible for the selection of the barrels and for the construction of the stock and the warehouses management. He is still a popular jury member at events where whiskies are judged. Although already more than seventy years old, he still works part-time for William Grant.
In July 2016 he obtained the title MBE, Member of the Order of The British Empire, for his contribution to the worldwide expansion of Scotch whisky. He is the quiet, silent thinker of the trio. He is also a well respected judge at the IWSC (International Whisky &Spirits Competition) and ISC (International Spirits Challenge)
