Valuing a Bottle of Whisky

Hi

I have just been asked to value and try and sell a bottle of Canadian Club, Bottleed by Hiram Walker and Sons from 1973.  Apparantly a Canadian Friend brought it over from Canada a few years ago as a Birthday present and as he does not drink Alcohol he wishes to sell it.

Don't bother trying to make a bunch of money on it.  Canadian whiskey doesn't quite have the same glimmering appeal to investors as scotch.  It's probably not worth anything special. i.e.

https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/64751/canadian-club-06-year-old (1973 bottle)

https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/search?q=canadian&status=yes#productlist-filter (but remember that shops mark up significantly.  You'd never get anywhere close to their valuations)

I know a shop owner who scored a couple pre-WWII Canadian Whiskey bottles in auction a few years ago and even those were not worth a ton (relatively-speaking).

If you really want to offload it, just send it to an auction and hope for the best.

I am afraid it is worth very little £50-£75 going by todays auction prices, a 1970 went on a major UK auction for £60 last month.

Why don't you buy it off him. Mates rates. Offer him £40 and say it's going to a good home and you will enjoy it.

For example this was sold for 19€ in October 2018.

It is bit weird times, in my mind even though whisky itself wouldn't be anything spectacular (or even close) still it's soon 50 years old and worth due to that fact perhaps bit more.

Seriously, what is with this?  I've seen the same thing a number of times on different threads from the same user.

Same here. It's like he's trying to say something without saying it.

They are all edited 10-15 mins after posting.

Maybe he did say something but wanted to delete it, and since that is not an option editing to "never mind" is a solution.

If it happens more than once I would suggest thinking before typing as another option.

Well then, we'll have to be quicker on clicking on what he's typed to see what his most inner thoughts are on such matters.wink

This is my assumption as well (in fact, the first time it happened I made a half-joke comment wondering what the original comment might have been), but the part I find peculiar is that she seems to have never made a real comment (other than the "never mind" ones) and yet has done edit-before-someone-sees-it thing three or four times now.

Karlie, if you're out there... if you're editing because you're embarrassed by what you'd posted or something, don't be, we want to encourage you to participate.

(I suppose another possibility is the postings were accidental)
