Hi everyone,

I'm a big fan of the Ardbeg Supernova. Unfortunately this range is disconnected. So far, It looks like Ardbeg has not been able to present something as good.

Are there any other whisky's out there that you compare with the SN?

Slainte,

Marc

You might want to wander to the Octomore section, from Bruichladdich.

Yep, good one, but there are quite a few of those right? Could try by obtaining a few samples though. Thanx.

The Octomores are definitely on the pricey side, so a few samples might be a good idea. They are available online, e.g. at Master of Malt.

They are not for everybody. Personally I love them.

sigh, I thought both Octomore and SN were over hyped.  There was no complexity to them. If you like them, great...more for you.

yes, I like big peat but these needed more time than what they got.

To each his/her own indeed. There are older ones than the "originally-default" 5 yo's though, viz. 08.x, the 10 yo's, and judging from Futures and the MP series, still a lot more in the warehouse.

There's a whole swathe of Ardbeg releases to investigate unless there was a very specific characteristic of the SN you liked? SN wasn't a range; it was a Feis Ile release.

Look out for Auriverdes, Ardbog, Alligator, Dark Cove, Kelpie, Galileo to name but a few.

Dear Webdunk, well, fair enough but a few you mention are not available through the normal channels anymore.  Thanx for your advice though.

IMO, Supernova is peatier than mentioned Auriverdes,..., Galileo but this is of course subjective opinion.
I believe Supernova was never Feis Ile release but there was Committee releases and also for two years general releases.

Butei, just in case, you could check newer (let say roughly that after 2004 distilled) Ledaig bottlings, they might come close on peatiness and also in other characteristics to SN. If you happen to try Ledaigs I would be interested to hear your opinions on similarities (if any found happy).

Dear Whisky Epicurean, thanx for your reaction. In the meantime I purchased a corryvreckan at the WB shop (not received yet). Indeed Ledaig could is an option. I have the 2 WB Archives releases. The 1st I emptied already. It was excellent. I have a Caol Ila GM 2008 cask strength. Also fantastic, but still not the same range as the SN (indeed Commitee release 2009 to take off). Will keeping looking & trying though

You're welcome Butei. I haven't tried myself latest two Corryvreckans (2016 & 2017) yet but I have understood that they are not necessarily comparable to older Corries, so here also I would be interested to hear what will be your comments on it. It could be so that normal TEN is the safest bet on the easily and affordably available bottlings side.
